Now that we've got farming season behind us - we're starting to get a little busier playing these typical mid-western out-in-the-mid-of-nowhere beer bash get-togethers. To me, the highlight of the summer. Typically low-paying gigs, but there are other rewards - usually a lo-risk gig. We set out a tip jar and sometimes do fairly well. Usually all the food you want and all the alky you can handle as well. (I'm usually way too busy to consume more than 3-4 beers for the whole evening).
Start playing at 9 or so, play 3 sets and finish about 1 am - pack up and arrive home at about 4.... What's not to love?
A couple of Zeppelin tunes, a little Pink Floyd, Collective Soul, Santana, ZZ Top, Stones, CCR, and others, and we'll probably manage to sneak in 5 of our originals as well, all to a bunch of people sitting around on lawn chairs or at picnic tables swilling beer and swatting mosquitoes.
And, playing outdoors has the advantage of nobody really caring how loud you are - three weeks ago we played at one of these events and we were reported to have been heard 7/10's of a mile away.
Tonite we're travelling to Greenup, Illinois to another party. The van is already loaded and ready to go. The 'stage' will be sporting 2 black t&r columns powered by a K200B, the bassist will be running my K250 2x15, and I will be playing through a K150sc 2x12 and a *gasp* twin reverb. You all are invited. Starts at 9.
Anybody else playing these same gigs?

I just got up *yawn*
Yes, the mains are the 2 Kustom 4x12 columns powered by the K200B p.a. head.
We run 2 mics (we don't mic anything but vocals) into an Alesis MidiVerb3, into a BBE362, into a PV 16 chan passive board. We seldom turn the K200 up past 11 o'clock.
On the monitor side we have 2 PV floor wedges powered by a K200B1.
Simple, affordable, it works, and best of all, it's paid for.
We had an excellent gig - best one of the summer. The tip jar reflected this as well. We ended up starting at 8pm because there were some friends there who had to leave early. We started off playing to a very small crowd, but to my surprise, a lot of people had arrived by the end of the 2nd set. I was so busy I didn't notice the influx of people. And the 'dance floor' was mostly occupied the entire evening, especially so in the 2nd and 3rd set. Some of those girls sure got some MOVES.
We quit at 1 am - the people wanted more, but our set list had given up it's best material, and - to be honest about it, my feet hurt. That 11 lb LP gets heavy at the end of the night.
We go to northern Crawford county for next Sat night.

Hey Roy...glad to hear you're playin! amazing how the old school still works so well...used to be all we needed a PA for was vocals..everything else came from the backline and it worked...and gave us more excuse to have extra amps in our collection.
I'm hanging with a local band a bit at the moment...just really enjoying the weekly get together on Sunday evenings...do some cookout..visit..then practice..they have some jobs coming up...but hard for me to committ to them since my backline company stays busy on weekends....but when they do play...they do have keys and drums in the PA..and a mic in front of the guitar rigs...but they let you run as much guitar from stage as you want...and that means a nice pair of kustoms behind me...heck might even get to pull the big ol 4x12 rig out here again! love it outdoors! Play Loud Roy..ET
