Does anyone know the dimensions of the 3x12 cabinet? Is it much shorter than the 3x15?
The 3x12s are pretty rare, aren't they? Would one loaded with the orignal Jensen speakers make a decent bass rig?

If you reload the cab with 12 inch drivers for Bass they need to be 16 ohm drivers.
For Bass usage in a playing out situation I would be inclined to make a new baffle and load it with ftwo 8 ohm 15" drivers.
The added size of the cabinet over over the normal size 2-15" cab would be a plus for Bass use!
16 ohm Bass drivers are very hard to come by!
You would either have to luck out and find CTS drivers out of a K100 Bass model Kustom, or have Eminence or Weber make them for you, and I know Eminrnce has a 4 to 5 week lead time on doing that.
With Weber if you found some blown square magnet Eminence or CTS drivers then you could save the core cost and have Weber or even Orange County speakers re- cone them to 16 ohm Bass drivers for you.
If your just going to play / practice on your own at home then Jensen guitar drivers would hold up fine, but I would not push a 5 string Bass thru them!

Thanks, guys. It's tempting - the price is certainly right. I'm still mulling it over. I don't play out much, hardly ever, really, and my band doesn't play terribly loud anyway. The whole thing appears to be in excellent condition, and the guy only wants $300 for it, so it almost seems like a no-brainer.

He says one is an original Jensen and the other two are "Kustom replacements". Oh, and it comes with a K200-2 head - all in very good, working condition. I think I'm not going to be able to pass this up.

Bought it today, $250, found on Craigslist. It's in excellent cosmetic shape (but it smells of smoke - ugh - any ideas on how to get rid of that?), and almost everything works. The only flaws:
* Bright switch on the left channel doesn't work (cuts sound out completely
* Tremolo intensity is a bit weak, but turned up to the max is plenty usable
* Small amount of static in the sound, but not too bad, really, Haven't played it enough to assess it well, though.
I wanted to post a pic, but the "Insert Image" button doesn't appear to work - tried Chrome and Firefox - same thing.

Congrats on the purchase!
Clean the amp with good quality spray cleaner like 409 or Fantastik. I buy the Awesome brand cleaner at the dollar store. The grill will also hold a lot of odor and should be scrubbed down.
If the odor remains, Ozium spray from the auto parts store may help.
Get a can of Deox-It and clean all of the pots and jacks. Clean the bright switches. On the bright channel the bright switch is almost like a stomp box switch as it switches in and out a small transistor treble boost circuit. If the switch gets dirty, the bypass mode or the bright mode might not work.

Thanks, guys! I'll open it up and check on the bright switch and such. The guy said he'd had the head worked on, and all the controls are really very quiet, but I suppose the guy could have missed some things. I guess I need to get me some De-Oxit - I keep hearing about it. I usually just get a big spray can of "contact cleaner" at Lowes, and that usually does the job, at least on pots - never really done much cleaning jacks and switches.
So I'm guessing $250 for a K200-B2 and 3x12 cabinet is really a pretty amazing price, especially considering the condition - the naugahyde is in almost perfect condtion, with only one tear on the back. The handles are in good shape, as are the knobs and the ball casters. He said he replaced all the screws in the back, but I think he just used inexpensive screws - physicially they look correct, but they're not stainless steel, so I think a trip to Home Depot for some stainless oval-head screws is in order.

Sorry, I forgot the most important question of them all! It's black!
Since getting a black K50 a while back, I've been more and more drawn to black.
I want to post a picture, but the "insert an image" button doesn't work - I've tried it from three different browsers, two different PCs on two different networks.
I'll put the pic up at my website and post a link later.

Well, it doesn't show up inline in the conversation, but if you click on the link it'll bring up the photo. Sorry for the crappy cellphone picture. Should have grabbed my wife's DSLR.

sunnhead wrote on Mon, 04 June 2018 13:48I love the 3x12 configuration! I have a B-4 in Gold and Silver. One with the jensen's and one with the altec's.
I'd love to have a B4! Do you play bass through either? Does the Altec cab sound significantly better? I probably could never justify spending the money on Altecs, but I may look into some more bass-oriented 12s someday.

I have owned one of the 3x12 cabinets. Mine had the Jensen speakers. Besides the Altec option, they also offered a CTS-loaded bass-specific 3x12 cabinet. The 2x12 + 2x10 cabinets were the same physical size as the 3x12 !

Believe it or not the stacked cabinets ( more then 2 drivers vertical in a row) are better for Bass reproduction then higher frequency guitar or keyboard reproduction because there are no phasing issues taking place.
