Did anyone see this one?

I know there were two different Black Naugahyde's used - does this one look like the shinier version? Or do you think it's just the result of a generous treatment with Armor All?

BTW, Les, the serial on this one, 1519, is one I got from you out of your database. Looks like the date on it is 12/18/68.

I'll check when I get home but I think the shiny naugahyde (Kool Black) came out later - a black Kustom from 1968/69 would be the original black.

I think they just used a lot of Armor-all on it - they wanted to make sure anybody trying to carry it would not be able to hang on to it.

Looks like it's the original covering with a lot of Armor All on it. It's hard to tell from the pictures but the Kool Black was the wet look and it has a wider deeper grainer appearence than the original black. There is a 118 Folded horn cab in Detroit that is the Kool black, http://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/msg/2437696918.html The photo of the serial number plate shows the shiny deeper grain of the kool black.

Ahh, I see. Thanks!

The seller is quite the huckster. He probably buys Armor All by the gallon.

Kool Black came out about March 1971 / serial number 68000, so back in 1968 when that Armor-All Kustom organ was made there was only the one black color.
