Went to use my old Sure microphone that I have had since the early 70's and I'm not getting much sound even with amp turned all the way up. Do I have a low impedance mic and these Kustoms are high impedance? The mic is a model 5455D. Doesn't seem to work with my old Peavy amp either. Maybe just a bad microphone?

The Capsule could have gone south, yes but if you are getting any sound out of it at all its likely to be fine.
That is a duel impedance mic like my vintage model 565 and can be wired for high impedance.
Go to the Shure web site and down load the instructions for it, just note that the set screw to pull out the XLR on the end is reverse thread so turning it counter clock wise will make it recede down out of the way and let you pull out the XLR to swap the wires.
If you do not want to go thru this than get a impedance matching transformer, they type with the needed 1/4" male on the end!

Did it work with the Kustom before and now just stopped or is this something that your are just trying now for the first time?

It could be wired wrong or it could be a bad cable or it could be a bad capsule or it could be disintegrating foam covering the diaphragm or ???

Haven't used in years..........over 25 in fact. Last time was with Traynor PA amp. I am getting sound thru it just at a very reduced volume. Hoping that it is wired at low impedance and that is the problem. Will try rewiring and see if that does the trick. If not, what type of mic's should I be looking for with the Kustom T&R amps.

Is it a model 545SD?

If you used it with something like a Traynor 6400, the mic is probably wired for low impedance. Rewire it for high impedance and it will probably work fine with the Kustom.

I'll try rewiring it tonight and see if that's the problem...hope so since it was a good mic and at the time I paid a pretty price for it I think. So guessing that all future mic's will have to be high impedance to work with Kustom's T&R amps. Any suggestions as to what is now a good mic? Thanks.

FYI........just talked with a guy on Craigslist that has a trailer full of Kustom T&R equipment. Several of the tall cabinets with 3-15's, some of the regular ones with 10's or 8's, and a couple of possibly bass cabinets. The biggy is that he claims he has a 600 series amp but doesn't know anything about it. He may be sitting on a gold mind and not even know it. Says that most of the equipment is in very good shape. Will let you know what I find out when I get back from my road trip. May have hit the mother load!

Mic works fine now that I switched over to high impedance. Thanks for all the help. Never thought about goggling Shure. Looks like I'm back in business again. Thanks again.
