Yea, I have heard one of those, there OK!Pepole forget that the latter silverface amps had ultralinear output circuits and higher powersupply voltages,(better clean) so once you put them back to blackface 60s era circuit specs in the preamp and driver stage, and address the wiring layout, then! you have a better clean amp then a twin.
Back in 64 when fender came out with the twin reverb, it was one of the only loud and clean amps of its time and worthy of its title of king of clean, but the fender showman was the same amp with out reverb and with 2 JBL D130 15 inch driver, that should of got the king of clean title!
Once 1967 hit and marshall came out with the 200 RMS major engineered just! for clean the game was over, but the twin still kept its title all these years mostly due to its rock soilid use in the recording world.

That Fender tube reverb didn't hurt either LOL. That was part of its title and well deserved. Its luscious. Thats the only area that a Super Reverb can best my 66 Bassman in.
Your right at the time the Twin came out nothing could beat it for that combination of loud clean volume and wonderful reverb.
Country pickers and rockers used it. The Beatles loved them. Steel players used them widely too. But even with the quarter power switch flipped that Twin is still way louder than my Deluxe Reverb.
So my Deluxe Reverb gets a lot more use. Right now I use three small amps in my A/B line with my guitar for different tones so that I can change into any one for whatever sound I want.
Those three are my Deluxe Reverb, my Pro Jr, and my 36 Coupe. It helps having them all there too in case of any problems. I don't like trying to fix amps on stage even if its just a simple thing and keep audience's waiting.
The Coupe can be a maid of all work if its needed to be. It has some nice dirt like the Pro Jr and it has some nice clean like the Deluxe Reverb. I really like that selective boost on the foot switch as well. It does not color your tone at all and you can set for any amount that you like. If they keep them in production I may get a 72 Coupe some day too.
The little coupe's reverb is not that bad either. Its way better than the Vox amps that I have. Its just not quite as good as that Deluxe or Twin though.
Your also right that the Silverface amps were a bit louder and cleaner. CBS wanted a hifi amp. They didn't realize that the players had what they wanted as in a warmer sounding tube amp. Not a hifi amp. We players love the inprefections of our tube amps.
