There's a black 3x15 cabinet nearby with no speakers, seller is asking $100. Don't know if it's from the plexi or metal face era.
Is that a decent price? Also, there was recent discussion of the horns for these cabs, and I seem to recall someone saying they were still available, is that true?

I found these 15" Eminence speakers on eBay:

Seems like a pretty cheap price - anyone know anything about these, or why they might be so cheap? Tempting, but I don't want to wind up spending $100+ on junk.

100.00 if is not all beat up is an great price, I assume its black. If its in color the better! Speakers are to what you want to put into it. I love vintage JBL's but cost 125-200 for a single D-140/130 speaker. Does the cab have chrome ports? Its more than likely a 200 series cab.

Rodak, where in Georgia is this cabinet ?? I am in SW Georgia (Bainbridge) and have been looking for either 2-15" or 3-15" black cabinets. I would much rather the 2-15's, but would consider a 3-15" - especially for $100 ! Also, I would like to know if it had ports or not - I rather the looks of those. Concerning those Eminence speakers - they are probably on par with the CTS speakers that were used at the factory - WAY back when !

I saw a black 3x15 kustom cabinet on ebay or craigslist a while back for 135.00 that was listed by a music store I think in GA. They may have lowered the price. The one I saw was for the Frankie series amp. If you have a photo, count the number of T&R across the top of the cabinet. 11 T&R would be for the Frankie. 12 T&R would be for the K200 series. Frankie cabs had the 3" port holes cut in the baffle board. The first series of the K200 cabs had the port holes and the aluminum port tubes were a 20.00 upcharge. The speakers you linked your post to, looks to have a smaller magnet stucture than the CTS Bass speakers that kustom used at the time of manufacture, but the 16 ohm is what you'd want to load in the cab. Wire them in parallel for a 5.6 ohm total load.

Note that the metal face era speaker cabinets did away with the earlyer taper that narrowed the front of the cabinet from bottom to top to angle the sound up.

In regards to those Ebay sepakers, since they are out of a production amp you will find that the are a less efficiant version of a Eminence Delta serise driver.
This can in turn make a 100 watt amp sound like a 50 watt amp in short order.
My recommendation to you would be that if you had the needed funds to purchase new or used Eminence Delta 15B model drivers in the needed 16 ohm version.

Thanks for the replies.

It's located in north Atlanta, near I-85 at Beaver Ruin rd. He says they do have the ports, I don't now if they're aluminum or not.

I guess I forgot to mention, yes it is black, and he says the naugahyde is in good shape, as are the handles and casters.

Here's the craigslist post:

I'm still mulling it over, let me know if you decide to go for it. I probably wouldn't wind up doing anything until at least the weekend.

Here's the one on eBay for $135:

Looks like a Frankie, not the same one.

Thanks Rodak - I will probably pass on the 3-15, I really want a couple of 2-15 cabinets. When (and if) I find a couple, I intend to make some adapters and install 12 in. speakers. I have always liked 12's for bass, and the extra cabinet volume should help the sound ! And, concerning the "Frankie" cabinet, that seller is in Alabama, near Birmingham.

The seller says it has 11 pleats across the top, but it has the metal ports. Would that be a Frankenstein?

Rodak, it sounds like it's a odd cabinet. I've never seen an original 11 Tuck & Roll Frankie cab with the aluminum ports that were a factory installed ported cabinet, nor in any literature or that have ever surfaced for sale on eBay or Craigslist. It was after the change over from the Frankie series to the K200A series that Kustom started offering the aluminum ports as a 20.00 upcharge, well after, the Frankie series were discontinued. Some thoughts I have, the cabinet was converted at some time by an owner of the cabinet. If this were the case, there should still be two smaller 3" port holes in the baffle board behind the grill cloth. Keep in mind that Kustom used a 1/4" spacer board around the outside edge of the baffle board and behind the name badge and port area so the grill cloth wasn't directly on the baffle board. So if the ports were added after it was built, someone did a lot of work to add the ports and the spacer boards behind the ports. It may have been re-covered and I've seen a few that were a pretty good job, but they never get the number of T&R correct. It's all guess work on my part, I think it's time for some photo's to be able to tell you what the cabinet really is. An original Frankie 11 T&R cab measures around 22" inches, the K200 Cabs measure around 24", so I guess if the seller can measure the width of the cab and it's around 24" and has 11 T&R across the top, then I'd say its been re-covered. I have a photo of a very nice re-cover of a K200 2x15 cab that has 13 T&R across the top and 19 T&R on the sides. T&R are just under 2" each and it measures around 24". I'd really like to see that 3x15 cabinet.
