Hi,

New here and just had one question:

i have had a quad 100dfx for several years now and am wanting to upgrade the sound a little. I have ordered a new Celestion g12t and as i am looking at the amp, the speakers are mounted into the front of the amp and i dont see a way to remove the front grill to get at the speaker screws. anyone know how to remove it?

thanks!!

nevermind. I figured it out. Let me ask this: I am looking at putting a pair of Celestion g12t-75's in this amp. They are rated at 8ohms ea. Is there a reason I should NOT do this? would it hurt the speaker or amp to do one speaker at a time (eg- running with one 75 and one super 65 for a while)

thanks again!

Welcome to the place.

I don't know much about your amp, but according to the owner's manual the power amp is rated 100 watts into a 4 ohm load. So the 2 G12T's should be fine.

Replacing them one at a time should not be a problem, assuming that the super 65 is also 8 ohms. In fact mixing of speakers will sometimes give you a better tonal range than just using two of the same speakers in a cabinet.

FANTASTIC. This was exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for. All the homework I have done so far says the same thing I guess I was just looking for someone to address those specific speakers and yes, they are both rated 8ohm.

thank you!

I am also assuming that, since the amp is 4ohm and the speakers are 8, they must be wired in parallel?

Mixing different brands of speakers, you will want to make sure they are phased the same. (Cones move in the same direction)

the amp currently has celestion super 65's so the brand will stay the same. This should cover any phasing issues, shouldnt it?

It should, but you can use a small battery to test to make sure cone movement is the same.

I really do appreciate all the advise. I should be getting the first g12t the middle of next week. I'll let you know how it goes!
