I've had this rig for a while and I've finally had time to "go thru" it. It's got the original CTS's dated March '68. At some point, previous owner did a few things inside including putting insulation all over the inside and, who knows why, replacing the middle support bar that goes from side to side and also attaches to the front of the cab. Problem is, they cut the piece too short, so it doesn't go from side to side. They just left one end short and put a ton of staples on the other end. I'll need to cut a new one so it will be completely supportive as intended. What I need to know - is this support bar all one piece and if it is, is the section that attaches to the front of the cab glued, screwed or just butted against the frame? If it's not one piece, how is it put together? Thanks.

Well believe it or not, I think what you have described is in fact factory original.
All of the interior walls should be covered with yellow fiberglass insulation. The area around the vent openings should be sprayed painted black.
The reason for the center brace is to stop the back panel from flexing and vibrating causing a booming sound. It should not be solid, so that it doesn't create two separate speaker boxes, but instead one single air cavity.

The staples are original, the board isn't supposed to go across the entire back panel. I too used to think that this was a mistake, but over the years, I've seen it done too many times to have been done in error. Go figure?
Another thing about the fiberglass, was that later cabs had what looked like pre-painted black fiberglass installed. The earlier ones were only painted around the port holes.

For the record, my 3-15 cabinet has the partial brace across the middle. Just like the original poster described, doesn't go all the way across, tons of staples in it. Obviously, it's there to keep the back from rattling.
I can't remember whether the fiberglass was painted or not. I do remember there being fiberglass in there, though, and if I was betting on it, I'd bet it was painted black.

All of my 6 Cabinets and any others I have ever seen have the incomplete (left to right) stapled in brace with the angled screwed in support going to the rear of the baffle.
Sometimes they did not have time to spray paint the fiberglass, as in my 4-10" combo K100-8 model. How ever they always painted the fiberglass on the back panel of the cabinets with ports as that yellow could be viewed from the front.
