Hello everyone in this new and crazy Kustom world, completely un-beknownst to me before hand. From extensive research on this particular site, I am using a Kustom Charger M#28-B 1x15 200 watts Bass Combo. This has been used by my family Christian band since possibly 1972-1973 upon the bands conception. It's always been around, played, banged up, sat on, hauled around. I've been playing for 16 years and have had several "modern" amps and have always used my Charger for "spare" only!! I've never realized how truly magical it is until tonight by the posts on this very site! I've never truly appreciated this amp until this very moment. Recently, other than minor cosmetics, there has never been anything slightly wrong with the amp itself. Now the speaker is "blown" making an ever so slight "flapping" sound when played. My question, If you choose to answer, is this: What is the first steps in repairing the speaker itself with an authentic original part? How, Where, and How much am I looking at for a possible restore if you will. I would like to repair the blue light, fix a couple of small tears in the vinyl, and just clean the overall cosmetic appeal? Thanks to anyone with a reply and the moderators and creators of this site. David

Take the speaker to a repair/recone place. I use The Speaker Doctor in Charlotte, NC www.speakerdoctor.com - Ask for Steve and mention my name. I think that if you do a search under the repair section, you'll find info on the blue light replacement and possibly on the vinyl repair. Cleaning is mostly elbow grease intensive. Once cleaned, I find that a coating of Armour All wiped down real good restores a nice look. If your speaker grill cloth neats attention, I use the Armour All on it too. If you can't remove the speaker or the grill, spray a toothbrush or something similar and worked it into the grill cloth. That way you don't spray the speaker. Made my '68 cab and grill look nearly new. Enjoy. Cool

Hi,
The speaker you need is a 15 inch 8 ohm.
For bass use, I would get a bass speaker, get a guitar speaker if you use it for guitar.
The stock speaker was probably a KEI - I dont see any on ebay right now but there are a few CTS 15's.
Altec or JBL would be a good choice although more expensive than a KEI or CTS speaker. Carvin, Eminence, and EV are also good.

You can get the speaker repaired for $50 to $100.

The Charger takes a GE335 bulb which is 28 volts at 40ma.
(These two bulbs are not correct and can cause the resistor to overheat: Radio Shack 272-1143 (12 volts at 75ma)
GE373 (14 volts at 80 ma) )

just a aditional note for you if you or even a tech will be replacing that bulb.
The main body of these switches break very easy if pushed on to hard, and in my 6 plus years of searching have yet to find a replacemt that was made. I have found switches that would have worked, but they have been discoed by the time I find them!

The bulb gets replaced thru the front of the swt, pry the blue lens off with a small screw driver on opposite sides of the lens, then you will see the little bulb.
To get the bulb in and out use either a long nose plyer wraped with black tap so you can grip the bulb without crushing it, or use a small lenght of automotive vacume hose that can be sliped on the bulb tight enough to spin it in and out.
Just to restate, always treat the power and polarity switch with respect cause as they age the plastic dry rots just like your cars dash board, and you know how easy they can crack!
