I'm thinking about getting a K200 B-1 amp, but I heard it was mainly a bass guitar amplifier. Would it sound to bassy with a regular guitar?

The head itself is a great head for either bass or guitar. It really depends on what kind of cabinet and what speakers are loaded in the cabinet, type of guitar and if you are using any outboard processor pedals, and the kind of music you are doing. I use a K200B-1 head with a 2x15 cabinet for practice and it has peavey black widow speakers in it. It sounds great to me. I am doing new rock to classic rock, but sound is a very personal taste. My rig is not at all bass heavy and I use the right or normal channel with the bright switch off. I do use a digitech RP1 processor for echo, reverb, chorus, etc. I would not have any problem using one. Don

I'll be setting it up with a Kustom 150 cabinet that has its original 12" speakers. You think not too much bass for a guitar?

Don, I have a Kustom cabinet with 2 12" speakers and a single input. The K200 B-1 has two outputs on the back of the head. Is there a way to connect it to my cab? Or will I just have to use one output only? and will that essentially reduce the wattage to 100 instead of 200? Thanks.

Your first consideration should be the type of speakers in the cab. The greatest factor in determining guitar or bass use in a vintage Kustom concerns the speaker load in the cabinet. CTS, JBL and Altec or the KEI bass speaker will do for bass. Jensens will be for guitar work or LOW volume bass. Bass type speakers may be a little dark sounding for guitar....and guitar speakers will be too light weight for heavy bass work. If I remember correctly the 150 cabs were usually about 6 ohms and most had KEI (Kustom Electronics Inc) speakers...... the 200 head will be fine with that. Connect to one of the speaker outputs on the 200. If you crank the volume of the 200 passed the 10-11 o'clock position be prepared for distortion from anything other than premium (JBL or Altec) speakers....and even they will break up shortly after that. Let us know how it turns out! BC

I forgot to answer the wattage question...middle age ya know! The 200 heads were rated a 200 watts PEAK power with all things in order on a good day. I think it will be about 60 watts RMS at an 8 ohm load and 100 RMS with a 4 ohm load. If your 150 cab is 6 ohms I am guessing about 80 watts RMS as I am not a tech type of person! Somebody help me out here before I get in over my head!!! 80 watts of Kustom power for guitar will flat SCREAM when the volume is brought up to the sweetest tone. If you ever get a chance at a 100 head check it out too......the good thing about Kustoms is that nobody can have just one! BC

They are just a tab bit darker to me but not in a real bad way or anything. I played guitar thru one or two Kustom 200 cabs thru a Fender Bassman head. See what I mean. I used one or both cabs just depended on how big the area was I that I was playing in. Some guitar amps are overly bright anyway and it actually helps them sound better. Really its a personel taste kinda thing.

I personally like the sound of a guitar through a bass amp. I, like Don, use an effects processor to get the reverb and stuff.
