I just bought waht was supposed to be a 2-15 cab yesterday but it looks like a folded horn? And it distorts like crazy with my Peavey firebass 700 driving it. Wondering if the speaker is gone or going and what it actually is ? Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Nighttrain 1127,
If you play bass you have bought the right cabinet.
I think you have a Kustom 1-18B.
The speaker is probably damaged and needs to be replaced.
Before you buy a new speaker, first you should flip the mounting of the speaker and see if the distortion improves. You can do this without actually opening the cabinet by just using the cabinet upside down. (I am assuming that the speaker does not face downward in the cabinet.) Gravity can make large speaker cones droop over time, so rotation of the mounting is a good idea. The speaker probably is damaged, but this is still worth a shot.
(Somebody please step in if I get anything wrong here)
The 1-18B is a folded horn enclosure with an 18 speaker.
It was made in 1972 to 1973.
It was normally used with the K250-1 bass amp.
The rated impedance of the speaker was 3.2 ohms.
The dimensions I believe are 51 H x 25 W x 18.5 D
If you ever wondered why K250 amps were rated as 3-4 ohms for the minimum impedance, the reason is probably due to this 3.2 ohm cabinet (and the 2.7 ohm 3x15 cabinet).
Plush also made one of these 18 folded horn cabinets theirs was I believe 48H x 30W x 20D
