Kustom IC [message #2433] Mon, 03 February 2003 22:51 Go to next message

Hi guys, I just ran across this site today. It is really grand. I have been a fan and collector of Kustom for some time now and am glad to know others share one of my passions. I do a little repair work on electronic equipment and have restored several bass amps. I am just too lazy to open the cases right now so I'll ask if anyone knows if the ICs used in the preamp section of the 150 and 200 series amps is the same part number? Thank. Be talking to you.

Hi. I have several 200s and to 100s, no 150s.And I have schematics for a bunch of them, and I do repairs myself. And unless I,am mistaken none of the plexi face 100s and 200s use an IC chip, and I have had all of mine apart to do repairs. I belive kustoms first use of CHIPS, was in the metal face 150s and 250s, 300s and 600s.I could be some what wrong, as I have never seen the inside of a plexi face 150.If you get the PC board number of your board or boards in question I can give you the phone number of a fellow who was set up by kustom with most of the original schematics.

Hi Steven M, I miss wrote my question I think. You are correct. I was refering to the 150 and 250 metal face amps. I just got one of each and read on this site that those ICs were hard to find. Mine are working at this point but I wanted to get a few for possible future use. The board numbers are the same in both amps. Looks like pc5067. Another question is are the ICs on the two preamp boards in one amp the same? I can not read the number on the lower(non selectone) board. One last question for now, Is it normal for the resistors in the power supply for the preamp and lights to run really really hot? Thanks for taking the time to respond. Oldee

Hi. The ICs on both preamp boards are the same, and yes they are still available from mouser electronics and others, although the part number escapes me right now.but It might be a good idea to pick some before they go away. They are cheap. Those 4 resistors will get hot they are dropping the 40 volts down to 12volts for the lamps and preamps. The bulbs can be gotten from radio shack, those I would pick up some while they are still around. They come 2 to a pack for 2 bucks. I have schematics for that whole amp should you need them. chow!

The bulbs for 150/250's are GE 335 and they are about $3.00 each at Radio shack. They are a screw in buklb and are different than the 100/200 style. Both the IC chips in these amps are the same, and I have 4 for sale.

Yup, $8.09 a piece, plus the whopping shipping charge that they get. Or get one from me for $12 shipped.

If you get it from a electronics supply, you get a warranty, they ship it in an antistatic bag, and it has not been sitting around some ones house for however many years geeting hit by stray static charges, or getting the pins bent and straightend so many times that when you go to put it in a pin brakes off.Dont ask me how I know this senareo.

The ones I have are in the original anti-static bag and have not been opened or touched at all. I have had them only a year.
