Hey Greg...welcome to the site...hopefully some others will chime in cause there is a ton of knowledge among the group..and I ain't it!..also be sure to check out our lit pages to get an idea of the model years and style progessions...the Kustom legacy really had a relatively short run so the model changes lasted only a few short years with the oddball transition pieces to be found.basically to your question..
the earliest of the models (65ish - 68?) have the "wider" front facing tuck n roll...some of us call them wide panels , others call em Frankensteins for their hi brow...and the cabinets that matched them are often refered to as narrow in that they are approximately 1 roll less wide than the later 200 series 2x15 cabs.
There have been many discussions about the wattage rating/ohm load on all the amps so I'll leave that one lay...but in general...we were dealing with an age where marketeers were boasting instantaneous peak performance...you know...on a Tuesday with a calm wind and a full moon....but the RMS ratings that are being quoted are consistent with anything being put out by the competition...ie Fender back then..expect a solid 65watts of very loud out of these amps...ok.. I"m getting off track...
the next model change was the most signficant and recognizable...it has the mode balanced tuck n roll with the top overlap being as wide as the bottom smooth bar and the flat plexi faceplate.
The earlier version is a 200A (67-68?)and will usually say "by Ross inc" on the front..the second generation of these 200 heads ..the 200B (69-71ish?) looks virtually the same but looses the "ross inc".
The housings are a tad different inside and the mounting holes don't line up so a direct interchange of A and B chasis is not quite exact...but doable.
the last in the series are the "metal face" or "slant face" and represent the final years of all things tuck n roll until the boys in Ohio brought back a vintage effort this past decade with an Asian made product that has the old plexi look but with some tubes inside..a hybrid rig that I can't comment on cause I've never had my hands on one.
As for the old amps...personally the oldest Franks/Widepanels have the best tone or guitar and are loud enough to cover anything you may want..not enough pump for most bass work...kinda like the old Fender bassman...nice tone....but not enough power today...heck of a guitar head though.
The A's likewise to me sound better than the B's...but the B's are more stable.
guys that know what they're doing can probably scavange some parts from one model for use in the others..but I belive there are some significant diffs in the transistors..germaniums in the older models...etc... ok...this is all I know...actually its more than I know...and I've probably said something stupid that I'll get corrected on...but then you'll learn that much more in the process.. I just wanted to be sure to welcome you and at least get you a starting point of reference...glad to have you with us...Play Loud! ET

wow! a lucky man indeed...yer wife's a keeper...mine used to be that way...I think she stopped saying that somewhere around my 20th rig (grin)..although she still would spring for a clean red rig to match my kustom guitar..had the chance this past Christmas but the asking price was a tad high for me...not that the rig wasn't worth it mind you...never want to sell any of my buds short...it was just too much for me to justify at the holidays.
I'm assuming you're an old dog like most of us here...who remembers gazing in the music store and dreaming of a big matched stack of tuck n roll...and now we're all big boys and we're buying our toys!
I capped my kollection off last Fall with the addition of a Kombo1 organ..there are a couple odd pieces that I don't have to make it an officially complete 69 collection....but that era 69-71 was when I was hitting my teen stride and dreaming more of amps than girls...my friends were stealing their Dad's playboys... I was gazing at amp catalogs...go figure..but my 69K25c started it all...and I"ve blazened my brain cells at that time with the amps that were on the show floors so that's what I've focused on.. I do have a couple older wide panels...and yes believe it or not guys...a slant face is in the trailer..plays good too...but the plexi and the SC combo series...those are my passion....hug your wife for me...kiss her for yerself an tell her thanks from all of us for being so supportive...nice to have another member...ET

Welcome from one of the newer kids on the block. I've only got one Kustom, but I have several other rigs. A supportive spouse is a blessing indeed. I remember once when I mentioned I was looking at another amp my wife said, "Fine, if you can find someplace to put it!" I just smiled. She forgot these things stack real nice. Axeman
