My Kombo organ has a #1829 pilot lamp bulb. The socket has a bad connection somewhere, and the bulb doesn't light (but the bulb itself does work - see below). But my question is: I measured about 41volts at the terminals of the bulb socket (but nothing at the contacts) - yet I see that an 1829 bulb is rated at 28volts - which is correct? BTW, part of what started me on this is that I just installed a blue jewel light in my Krossroad 500 head, (used the 1829 bulb out of the Kombo), and I'm powering it from a 42VAC xformer output. Works fine, but it's pretty dog-gone bright. Wondered if I ought to back off and drive it from the center-tap (21VAC) instead.

You're right, the 1829 bulb is rated at 28 volts, and will not last long running at 42. You should use the center tap and run it at 21 volts for realistic bulb life. As for your combo organ, I've never seen one, but if they are anything like every Kustom amp head out there, there should a 200 ohm resistor in series with the bulb that will drop the voltage to the correct level. If you read 42 volts across the lamp socket, it's because there is no current flowing through the bulb. Once you fix the socket, the voltage should drop down to around 28 volts. Bill from Chicago.

Ahh, yes - what a bonehead I am! I checked the schematic, and yep, there's that 200ohm resistor! Guess I forgot ohms law for a minute there - thanks! Gotta open up the Krossroad again anyway (one of the chassis bolts is giving me fits), so I'll change that bulb wiring while I'm in there.

We all have senior moments now and then, regardless of our age. While I have your attention, many thanks for your kool combo-organ site. I've spent many hours reading and drooling. Bill from Chicago.
