While cleaning the inside of my amp tonight, I noticed that ......whatever it is, the wire is broken on it. It looks like a small cylinder that has two wires that are in an insulated tubes and the cylinder....the size of an eraser head, snaps into a clip on the base plate. There is another cylinder like this on the other side of the amp as well. What is it and where do I get a replacement for it? Appreciate your help.

go to the thread more diodes about three or 4 posts down from your post. The diode that is broken is 1N3754. pleat

Thanks for telling me what the part is......question, where do I find a replacement part or at least a substitute for it.. Everywhere I looked, no one carries it anymore. I looked at the thread you told me to, and I guess I didn't see anything there that told me what to use in place of this diode. Any idea's where to look?

I use a NTE brand replacement.
A NTE5809 diode.
To work as intended it needs to be mounted as I will describe as the stock push in clip is too big and unusable.
First solder on some wire for more lead length and also heat shrink the rest of the diodes lead all the way up to the body.
What I do is capture the diode under the original clip, but you need to place electric tape on the bottom of the clip and the top of the heat sink bar such that should the diode move around it does not short out.
Another option is to mount these as Peavey does which is to have the diode body sit in a close fitting hole drilled into the heat sink bar, its your call!

JUST NOTE THAT WHEN THIS DIODE BREAKS ITS LEADS AND AS SUCH GOES OPEN IT MOST TIMES RESULTS IN A BLOWN OUTPUT STAGE!!!

Thanks for the info........it didn't blow, I broke the wire while cleaning the inside of the amp. What about hot gluing the diode to the clip or silicon?

I would not use either of those two ways of mounting it, also excuse my fat fingers, but the nte diode number is 5801 not 5809!

Okay...are you sure this is the right part number now.....I had sent an order to Radio Shack and fortunately the battery died in my computer.

Hey Stevem......radio shack has this diode but it doesn't look anything like the original one....it looks more along the line of a resistor....you know wire at either end instead of the can with two wires coming out the bottom of it. Is this the same thing?

Yes, I know! that is the way they look these days and now you may better understand why I suggested how to mount it and insulate it, and why I also passed along how other amp manufactures mount this new type of diode when used for a thermal reference!

You may still find these from a electronic surplus supplyer, but you may have to buy 10 or more just to be able to get one from them!

Thanks for the help, I will order probably a couple of these anyway since they are under a buck and keep a few around just in case especially since the shipping is more than the part.

How hard is it to replace the light bulbs in the K250 amps.......both the polarity and on/off switch lights are burnt out. ChicagoBill says they are a 335 bulb and I did find some but was wondering if the "plastic" switches did come apart....verses falling apart.

The best way to get those blue lens covers off is from the inside as it's much easier to push them off this way then to try to grab and or pry them off from the outside .
