Here's a recent news release...and this one is a significant move in the industry..I hope James can help the boys in Ohio..

ACCLAIMED AMPLIFIER DESIGNER JAMES BROWN
JOINS KUSTOM AS MANAGER OF ENGINEERING
PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MAY 7, 2004. CINCINNATI, OHIO - Kustom is pleased to announce that renowned amplifier designer and engineer James Brown has joined the company as Engineering Manager. In this role, Brown will oversee the design and manufacture of Kustom products and supervise the company's engineering departments.

For the past 17 years Brown was employed by Peavey® Electronics Corp., most recently as Instrument Amp Engineering Manager. There, he was in charge of all guitar, bass and keyboard amplifier projects and was the principal design engineer for many successful amplifiers including the Joe Satriani JSX®, the Edward Van Halen 5150®, the Triple XXX® amplifier, as well as the Classic® tube series, the original TransTube® series and many more.

"I am proud to have worked at Peavey and played my part in its success," said Brown. "I have a great deal of respect for Hartley and the achievements of Peavey in the music products industry."

"We're delighted that James has joined our already gifted design team at Kustom to develop the next generation of Kustom amps and P.A. products," said Bob Imhoff, general manager. "This is an exciting time for Kustom, and we know that with James on our team, some killer new products will be in the pipeline."

Prior to joining Kustom, Brown had earned a wide variety of patents relating to amplification methods and had served as Instructor of Electronic Engineering Technology at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. His book "Experiments in Electronic Devices" was published by Prentice Hall and is currently used in college curriculum.

"Kustom and the entire HHI family are excited to have such an accomplished individual join us," said Glenn Derringer, President/COO of Kustom/HHI. "This valuable addition will help further Kustom's success."

This would seem to be a precurser that Kustom wants to get their slice of the tube amp maket that I do not think they got with their not to long ago discontinued tuck and roll bass and guitar amp line. I have both the 400 watt bass amp, and the 100 watt guitar head, and over all they did a good job on them. Of the complaints I have common to both of them are (1) the sheet metal parts that make up the amp frame are screwed together and then dabed with red glue, normal for a item made in china, but these parts should have been riveted like before.(2) Their front panel switch buttons couple to their switches by over 12" long plastic (t) section rods, Items that are destin to out gas, dry rot and break, just like the dash board on any 8 year old car, and the guitar head being all tube with alot more heat being made will get that done faster! The guitar head should have had its output tubes mounted horizontal, the head has no tube retaining clamps or bras as I call them to keep the output tubes from falling out.On the good side both amps use nice large toroidal transformers, and the bass amp has a fan, something the guitar amp could use, as four of its five preamp tubes live inside with little venting. The bass amp is all I could ask for, the guitar head gets 95% of the grade after I retubed it with good 1960s N.O.S tubes. If you where a metal type player it might of been your cup of tea as delivered.

I emailed James, telling him about our web site and kustom player's page as well...and some of the fun we've had...he replied briefly saying he's heading out to namm today..will look forward to talking more when he gets back in... i will be anxious to see if kustom will take full advantage of this industry talent. My backline company gets consistent requests for the PV classic tweed series amps.. i have each model in the line from the 30,50 and 100 rigs..we do retube, but aside from that i have been more than impressed with these amps...and i have plenty of fender and marshall gear to compare them to...there is nothing lacking in those pv classics. The 5150s are focused to a certain sector of our industry..not my cup...but still....at least that's what i thought til i heard Elliot Eastman of the CARS now playing with Creedence Clearwater playing into a pair of 5150s through marshall 4x12 cabs with celestion v30s... he got some of the sweetest woman tone with Tele tha tI've ever heard.......James rocks on tube amps...now we just gotta get some tuck n roll on his work!

Can't seem to get an answer so I'm hoping you'll respond. My black T+R ported 2/15 CTS cab has serial # K 3231 with no S. Can you date it for me. That awesome charting posted in the forum only lists numbers starting with S. Thanks, teleman
