Nice looking head and cab. I have one of those charcoals in a 200 series. As you already know you've got the wrong speakers. I would get a couple of four ohm bass speakers (you never know what you might want to run thru it) and then wire them in parallel. That will give you the eight ohm load you seek for max power output.
Four ohm speakers are much easier to find than sixteen ohm. Try to get some with a 50 watt rating each if you can. That will give you some lead way for you run the cab with a more powerful head some day if you should want to.
The reason for the high and low inputs are that some instruments like a electric piano and active guitar pickups have a hotter output with a preamp in them. So the high input is best with them otherwize its distortion city fast. Not a good sound with a electric piano.
But for a standard guitar or bass the output of them is not high so you use the low input. Thats why the whole thing sounds kinda backwards from what it really is and why you see most people using the low inputs.
I have a small mixer with a preamp in it with stereo outputs. I use the high input for the piano as it staves off the distortion. Organ for a B-3 sound needs a bit of distortion so I run it in the high input. It gets that Stevie Winwood sound quick then.
If I play my regular (non active pickup) guitars and basses (which ninety percent are) I use the low input. I hope all of this makes a little more sense to you now.
Good luck and welcome to the Kustom club.
