I watch eBay every day for Kustom equipment, as do others on here. eBay is not a bad place to buy equipment, so long as you understand you're buying a pig in a poke. Photos help, good descriptions help, but one never knows whether it's a good description or not until you actually see the unit. I've bought two Kustom heads online, one was just the chassis with no padded box surrounding it. I found a box on eBay and bought it also. I've bought a few guitars, a powered mixer head and some other gear online. I can't say I've had a bad experience so far, but every time you bid, you're taking a chance. I'm patient and look for bargains. The only way I know of to know it's a bargain is to know the prices. As far as I know there's no definitive "guide" that will give you accurate prices for amplifiers. There's a guitar book and personally, I would not pay the prices they claim certain instruments are worth. I don't look for equipment, frankly. I look for motivated sellers. There's a few tricks for buying and selling on eBay. I don't know all of them, but I know several of them, and they do help.
Watch eBay and you'll get an idea of prices. But count on those prices to fluctuate depending on how many or how few of the same items are for sale at any given moment. If eBay is loaded down with K200B-5's, you might find a bargain. If there's only one at the moment, you might pay a premium. The same goes for any other item. I check some other places daily also. Sometimes it's feast, sometimes it's famine.
I'd much rather buy in person for many reasons. I can look at the item in person and test it. Sometimes the person knows what they have and sometimes they just need a quick influx of cash. Those are the ones that can end up a bargain. Cash always talks louder.
I bought a new model Kustom KSE 215 PA cabinet from an individual locally. List price on the thing is nearly $300. You can buy "scratch & dent" units from Musicians Friend for $179 plus shipping. I drove to the guy's home for about $10 in gas, bought the unit for $60 cash. He was happy. I was happy. I'd take those deals all day long.
Good luck out there.
