Hello there.

I recently acquired a Kustom 100 amplifier that started its life as a 100 SC 1x15 combo. It looks as if the original speaker was swapped out at some point so I'm not too sure what the exact model was. The cabinet is black in color and the speaker in it now has some issues and needs to be replaced. I'm thinking of instead of making this a combo either sourcing a head shell cabinet for the amplifier, or if that fails making one from scratch. I've made several replacement amplifier head shell cabinets before so it will be no problem, other than it will be covered in basic black tolex, not tuck 'n roll.

So the measurements of my amplifier chassis are as follows: 26"w x 5 1/4"h x 9 1/2"d. I'm wondering if anyone on here has a cabinet they'd be willing to sell, or perhaps a busted up Kustom 100 that I could scavenge to use as parts.

I'm not 100% sure, but this particular amplifier I have is a bit wider than most I've seen. Anyways, any help is greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your time.

I looked into the speaker a bit more. I looked and saw that there were a few rips slits in the speaker cone, which I should be able to fix.

On the back of the speaker was labeled "Blow Out Proof", "1525xr" and "125 Watts" on a magnet cover. It looked to me like an Eminence speaker based on its design but I wasn't sure. There was a screw holding a cover on so with some assertion I was able to get the cover off and saw that the speaker code underneath was 67 7204, making it an Eminence.

I know from looking at the manuals that these came with JBL's or Altec Lansings, and I've seen a ton of Kustom amps with CTS as well. I suppose any 100 watt 4Ω or 8Ω replacement should do?

I'm contemplating finding a replacement head shell cabinet for this amplifier to simplify the speaker situation and use it solely as an amplifier.

Hello.
The K100 amps should be mated to a 8 ohm speaker if you want to get the amps full 50 watts rms into the speaker.
Running the amp into 4 ohms is OK as long as you play it at lower volumes.
When you run the amp at 4 ohms the output stage will run twice as hot per watt as when driving a 8 ohm load.
If you are going to search out a new speaker try to get one that is rated for 96 db SPL or better.

There is no other Kustom T&R head case that would be wide enough to fit your chassis, so it would have to be made, and as you said, covered in black tolex.

Okay gotcha. Nominal output of 8Ω @ 50 watts. Running at 4Ω would just heat it up with no gain in wattage.

That's too bad about this head not fitting any other enclosure. I suppose I'll keep my eyes open for a speaker and see how it al unfolds.

Thank you kindly for your responses!

You have the K100-6 chassis and Kustom offered the K100-7 which is the 2x12 lead amp version. Maybe someone would have one that the amp is toast.

Its not just no wattage gain a 4 ohms load, its near a 50% drop!!!
I really like the crunch sound of the K100s like this into different load and if you want that then drive the amp into a 16 ohm load, or if running a 4 ohm load silicone glue a 3" box fan to blow on the output transistor area in the chassis.
