Kustom colors

On ebay we have another “Gold” Kustom that is actually charcoal that has taken on a gold cast.

The three “Gold” colors
It is very common for the White with silver sparkle to fade to a light gold.
The true Gold color is a definite medium/dark gold color.
I have actually owned and then later sold Kustoms that I thought were gold that were actually white faded to light gold - I did not know until Kustom Dan clued me in.
The way you can tell is to remove one of the feet - the true color will be there.
The three “Gold” colors:
1. Gold
2. Light gold (White with silver sparkle faded to a light gold)
3. Charcoal with a gold cast

So actually there are 10 Kustom colors (instead of 7):
1. Gold
2. Red
3. Cascade
4. Charcoal with a gold cast
5. Light gold (White with silver sparkle faded to a light gold)
6. White with silver sparkle (that did not change color) edit: Kustom called this "silver"
7. Charcoal (that did not change color)
8. Blue
9. Black
10. Kool Black

(There are more than ten! The blue 2x12 cabinet I have on ebay has faded a little so it does not exactly match the normal Kustom blue tuck and roll color. It is actually about 1/3 of the way to matching cascade. When I had a cascade Kustom here, it didn't match but it did not clash as badly as blue and cascade normally do.)

Based on my records:
(1) Gold and (2) Red are the most rare colors in vintage Kustoms.
(3) Cascade, then (4) White with silver sparkles share a distant second place for the most rare color.
(5) Charcoal is third.
(6) Blue is a distant fourth.
(7) Black is the most common.

Hi,
Kustom called it silver.
But the color is actually a white base with silver sparkles.

I don't call it silver because it can cause confusion.
There is an ebay ad right now where the seller is describing the amp as silver and it actually is charcoal.

I have seen Charcoal referred to as "dark gray silver".
Actually Charcoal is more silver than the white is.
Unless the charcoal fades to gold.

Yes there is a Silver. What Les was explaining is that you have to be aware of Kustoms selling as "Gold" ~ Over time, the Charcoal and the Silver amps will sometimes fade/change to a gold color. So what he's saying is there can be THREE Golds on the market - The original Gold, a Silver Faded to Gold and the Charcoal faded to gold. To me - All of them look fine if they have faded evenly, but just know what you are buying. As he states, by taking off the Speaker Cab casters or the feet to the head cab you can learn the true color of the rig.

I had to ask, because I've seen quite a few of the "whites", and the base color on mine is much grayer...not nearly as dark as a charcoal gray, but the gray is obviously under, inside, whatever, the clear layer. It's difficult to describe but easy to see the difference when one A/Bs it with the official "white". The top bit of my photo is much truer-to-life than the pics below it; the warmth to the color in the others, the champagne-y quality, is an artifact of the photography.

zedsalt,
The color of your amp is definitely White with silver sparkle (the color that Kustom called "silver").
It looks like it has faded a little toward light gold.

As mention in the other postings, this is very common, about half of the "Gold" Kustoms you see advertised are not really gold - they are actually white faded to light gold or charcoal that has taken on a gold cast.
