Hello fellow Kustom enthusiasts,
I am the proud owner of a Kasino 2x15 speaker enclosure with CTS 15" speakers. I have NO IDEA which model it is. It does not appear on any of the catalogs on this site. It DOES NOT have a striped grille-cloth and it IS NOT tuck and roll but tolex. It has a closed back. It is plain black as plain black could be (with maybe thin white trim on the grille, I can't remember but I think so). It has a little metal badge on the back with the Kasino brand and serial number. It is a tilt and roll, with a single recessed handle on the back and some serious casters (fastened to the cabinet by these incredibly sturdy looking metal corners. 2 casters). It has one single input... that's it. No outputs or weird knobs or descriptive writing. Nothing.
It basically lives in my guitar player's van since I only use it for gigs. Sorry, I have no pictures of it yet but will post if no one knows right off the top of their head.
I have been using an SWR Workingman 400W head with it and have not encountered any issues. The guy who sold it to me said he bought it from the original owner who bought it in 1971. As far as I know there have been no modifications to it. He (the guy who I bought it from) said he ran a 450W head through it without any problems. Needless to say I am a bit worried about using so much wattage on a vintage cabinet like this, but it seems to handle everything I could dish out without breaking a sweat.
I am extremely perplexed as to the model and power handling of this beauty. I've scoured the internet to no avail. Please help if you can. Thanks.

Your SWR head is rated at 400 watts rms into a 4 ohm load, into the 2-15 cab if still wired for 8 ohms the SWR will output 200 watts RMS.
The 2-15 cab with stcok driver could probibly handle 150 watts RMS, but even 100 watts RMS of pure bass power thru 2-15s is loud and punchy as you have found out.
I say this being the owner of many 2-15 cabs and a two 4-10 cabs, a 4-10 cab can not match the thump of a good 2-15 cab even with a 4 string bass, no less a 5 string bass!!!
Dont fret about popping the drivers with your 200 watts, I sure you are pumping no where near that at the volume level you are playing at.

Pleat, thanks for your help I really appreciate it. I am almost positive that this is not the 252 model since that model had two handles on the sides and my cabinet has one single handle on the back (recessed). It may be the standalone cabinet as you mentioned, but even that I can't be sure of because according to the guy who I bought it from (who bought it from the original owner) there have never been any mods done to this cabinet. I assume the grille cloth came in black. Of course I could be wrong. I will post pictures as soon as possible. Oh, and it does have the original CTS speakers which I'm very happy about. I think they sound great!
I wonder if there is a way to check the serial number?

Hi stevem, thank you! That is indeed a load off. I have blown a friend's cabinet with the very same SWR (lesson learned, don't ever just assume your friend knows his/her gear well... check for yourself)and although I have faith in this kasino I was always just a bit on edge about the possibility of blowing the original CTS speakers. So thank you.
Now I must mention that I also drive everything with a sansamp. I don't know if that makes a huge difference as far as the load on the speakers (I assume it does, obviously, right?). We are also a pretty loud band. Ok, we're a really loud band, who am I kidding. So although I never quite go all the way on the knobs I get pretty darn close AND drive it with the D.I. So far no problems, just a slight, very musical growl that is robust and round around the edges and the highs still come in bright and punchy. So, any reason for worry?
