Kustom Bass 150 cutting out [message #1727] |

I have an old Kustom Bass 150 that continually cuts out after I've been playing for a while. After a few minutes I hear a click and it comes back on. The unit is getting VERY hot, and I believe that is the problem. My question is: How can I keep this thing cool? I've been thinking about buying a CPU cooling fan from a computer vendor, but I'm not crazy about punching holes in my case.
Any thoughts out there?
Thanks
Mike

If the amp is totaly cutting off and running hot, their is a thermal circuit breaker on the output transister heat sink, you are either driving the amp hard (ie) loud!, make sure the speakers are not less than 4 ohms total, or the amp needs to be checked out by a tech before it goes all together.

Dude,
If your output wires are not frayed, and your total output load is at least four ohms, try this:
One at a time, remove the power transistors from the rear of the cabinet, clean off all the old heat sink grease from both the transistor case and the amp chassis, smear a smooth, even film of new silicone grease on the transistor and the chassis, put on a new mica TO-3 washer, and replace the transistors, turning each screw a couple of turns before turning its mate the same number of turns.
If, after doing this, the amp still shuts down, replace the thermal circuit breaker attached to the chassis between the output transistors.
Hope this helps.
