Hello,
I was referred to this site by a Kustomer service guy, this is great! Anyway, I'm trying to repair an old K200B for a friend of mine. I replaced a few transistors (I think I got the right replacements) and I bypassed a few corroded traces on some of the PC boards. I put it all back together, turned it on, saw a flash of blue light inside the amp and it died. The fuse I put in it fried, but no magic smoke got out. My first question is, what May have gone wrong(can that happen if the reverb tank is connected backward?) and what size fuse SHOULD I be using. Also, if anyone knows where any schematics might be available I'm love you forever! Thanks.

Usually the frying of a fuse in such a violent manner means that the output transistor(s) are shorted. You need to go through and check all of the output transistors and drivers. There is also a chance that the output transistors are being driven to full output by a defective driver transistor. Then the speaker would be driven one way or the other and if the speaker were disconnected then the fuse might not blow. Other possibilities could be a shorted bridge rectifier or defective filter capacitors. You will have to work through the amp and hopefully you will find the problem. Keep plenty of fuses close by.

The fuses are 3 amp.....connecting the reverb tank backwards would not cause the problem.(I have done that lots of times trying to get them to work) Once I had a problem that came from not getting an output transistor properly insulated.....the plastic insulator fell off while I was installing it in the chassis......I found smoke and a flash. I am not a tech....just a trial and error guy.....more errors than anything else!BC

Cool, which transistors are the driver transistors? I know the output transistors are the ones mounted to the chassis on the bottom, are the driver transistors the ones that are the same but on the PCB mounted to the back of the chassis, or are they some of the smaller whita and black ones? Thanks.
