Has anyone ever tried to create a repro of a plexi control panel? I want to make one for my Kombo organ (the preamp panel, which is actually aluminum, not plexiglass), but am stumped about how to get the markings onto it. I can get an aluminum or plexiglass panel made to the correct size, but the markings - I dunno. Any ideas?

I've never seen a Kustom organ up close and personal. What is the panel supposed look like? I'll have to go to your site and see if I can find a photo of one. All of the original plexi amp panels were sub-surface, silk-screen printed. I've used rub-off (rub-down) lettering, laser/inkjet printable decal paper and silk screening, to repro different panels. Bill

I checked the photos at your site, and it looks like a regular K200B pre-amp board is mounted behind the panel. Is the panel part of the (stamped metal?) insert or is it a separate piece? I have a high-res scan of the graphics that you need, and if you give me dimensions, etc., I will create the artwork that you need. Then you can figure out how you want to apply it to the panel. Thanks, Bill - the scan looks great. It's cleaner than the scan I did from my panel, which has some minor scrapes and stuff. Yes, I believe it's a standard K200B preamp panel. The panel itself is aluminum, about 3/16" thick, I'd guess. I had two thoughts - one, making a repro out of plexiglass would look cool, I thought, and two, I want to eventually add a jack to it, sort of a "line-out" jack, but I didn't want to destroy the original panel (yes, I'd have to drill a hole in the backing plate, but it wouldn't show, and I've already made numerous minor mods and fixes, so I have no aspirations for this one to be a pristine, mint specimen)

I guess what's befuddling me is how exactly to get the artwork transferred. I don't know much about that sort of thing - what can and can't be done, where to go to have it done, etc.

I'm thinking less seriously, though about the line-out jack. I've already added a switch to cut out the internal speakers (it's nicely hidden in the volume pedal doghouse) without disabling the external speaker jack, and after reading some discussion here recently, I presume I can just plug that into an external amp if I ever want to, tho I haven't tried it yet (my bass amp is at my drummer's house)

Glad to hear you got the scan. I hope that it helps. I guessed at the positions of the input jacks, based upon the K200B control position grid.
As far as reproducing your panel, you could print the artwork backwards on clear overhead projection film, spray paint the back side white, to fill in the letters and then glue the overlay on the aluminum panel. Or you can print it out on white decal paper or on self-adhesive label stock and apply this to the aluminum panel. Both of these methods will require you to overspray the finished panel with clear Krylon to protect the printing. If you go with the plexi panel, you could sandwich a print out between the plex and the metal panels.
If you are located in an area that has a large graphics arts community (like Atlanta), you may be able to find a small graphics shop that does small proof quantity silk-screen printing that can actually screen print the panel for you. I used to have a friend in the t-shirt business that would screen print stuff for me. So that may be another source for you to investigate.

Thanks for the suggestions, Bill. I'm sure I'll be able to come up with one or two that I can manage.
