Hi-
I have a great deal of Kustom gear from the tuck and rolled hey day of the Ross Owned Era, and my kid wants one of these re-issue 100 Watt Heads. Are they any good? Does anybody have any expeirience with them? I've never heard/played on one, but I hear they're crap.

I bought a new 50 watt head last spring thru ebay. I arrived D.O.A. So that is my only experience with the new amps. A friend of mine bought a 2x15 cabinet and he said that within a few months the cabinet was falling apart at the joints. I did notice the naugahyde was almost see through is was so thin. I would think twice about a new one, and would never buy one mailorder. Hands on's the key to make a sound judgement. The original kustoms Rock.

Well, we caved in and bought it for him. It's nowhere near as sturdy as mine are. (He doesn't want solid state, I don't know why.) It seems to be a pretty decent head. It sounds okay, and seems like it will last for at least as long as he'll be using it. We've only had it about two days, though, so problems may arise in the near future.

really want ta hurt the tube head feelings...get a boss compressor sustain pedal, add an overdrive pedal behind it..slap that in front of the old ross amp and you will blow the tube head away..the solid state amp will respond in a "tighter" way and the old ross rigs used robust power trans and compnents that current solid state..heck even tube rigs just don't invest in...the result is headroom and tone that'll blow you away.. tell your kid.. I do have and have had...marshalls and fenders..and a few boutiques...wanna guess what goes out most often....and the only thing that glows on my amps is that incredible purple jewel light...and the smile on my face....as far as new kustom quality...can't speak to it..quoting Bud Ross himself "They're crap"...I've never tried one and never will cause the kustom company is crap and treated me as such... I truly hope the new amp is a good experience for you son... I wish the best for all new players..if he decides he doesn't want it any more, you'll have to look somewhere else, cause you won't find me playing one even if it were free...thats how well Wayne at Kustom treated me.

My son bought a TRT100 head and 2-15 bottom for guitar. We returned the first bottom as the T&R was so bad. The second was much better. The grill is lighter in weight and I do expect to replace that in the future. We lined the bottom with sound insulation the way the originals were. That helped the boominess. The amp is decent. The controls are functional and the tone is good. I would not put it up against an old 200, ever!!! The tone of the old ones just kick. We were not Ebay savvy when he bought his new one and had he not bought it, he would have gone vintage as his brother did. Maybe he will buy old, but it is hard to absorb $800 as a mistake. The Kustom name will live on forever but not for the new stuff. Bud Ross Rocks!!!!!!

Hi john...looks like you've been trolling through the forum posts...its fun ain't it..and a great way to get some info...to answer your question...Bud is ALWAYS working on something...he's one of those extra special people that acts on his ideas...right now he's been focused on a non-musical project that is consuming him to the extent of all else as usual....but...when the urge hits he has been known to hit the bench and create some little amp idea... i know of two projects he was working on earlier this year but I am sworn to secrecy so I'll leave the tease at that...as for the kustoms...he's been out of that for many many years..did take a run at a bass line called Krossroads...great rigs in the tuck n roll...I have a couple and rep'd them in the Southeast for the short time that son Andy was into the biz..the "new" and now discontinued kustoms had nothing to do with Bud...and that's a shame...neither does the new kustom company. I'm hoping Bud will surface in a few months and we'll try to get his attention back on amps and get him to the next kustom meet..in the mean time..you stay close to all us krazies...n Play Loud! ET

Forgive this dumb question but does 'anon' stand for anonymous? I see it alot in the forums. Thanks for answering my questions. Naturally I have more questions and will provide what knowledge I have on stuff.
My history with Kustom started back in the 60s. Back then I was mainly anti-solid-state for guitar sound. However first time I saw Kustom it looked real good on stage and still looks good. The best! The rock band I was in tried out Kustom and found it was real clean, especially for vocal and bass work. So we bought Kustom in the '200 series', (K200 3x15, 795 PA + horns on top, and two other K200 guitar amps), all black.
Is there some sort of time table on 'Kustom history'? Who is 'Klassic'? Actually I wish Bud would come up with something in 'tuck & roll', for these days. I keep wondering with all the Kustom gear in the 60s where did it all go?
What physical area do you rep and what? Southeast? What lines do you rep? Who is ET and are the 'Web-master' of the forum?

Hey John...welcome to the greatest bunch of guys (and Deb) on the planet...I'll try to answer some of your questions...others will jump in I'm sure...first..sorry about the anon(ymous)..we're all just too lazy to log in first ..then the forum would have our profile and not do anon...second Dan Olenick's son is the web master not me... I'm grateful to his efforts and putting this site up for us...but at the same time, its content provided by so many here that made this thing possible...great catalog scans and knowledge that spans from rumor, to dealer fact to remembered stories from talks with Bud...
My "rep" time was imformal with Andy..he did not have a full time rep lined up in the Southeast at the time and I took several rigs from him...the 200 Krossroads series, in various colors and ran them as far down as Savanah Ga and up to northern NC...sold several and then Andy sold the company to a Japanese concern based in Van Nuys CA..they never did anything with the line..bought the sewing machines, partially completed shells..etc...the 500 series head had problems..the 200 series are rock solid.
Bud is toying with other musical gear..remember he has made many electronic products..Ross line...his current dabbles will not be tuck n roll...Andy is still interested..but again..the market is tough..don't have to tell you that.
Imake my living as a CIO for a global biz so my music, like mosts of us, is on the side...yet always my first love...Bud knows if he ever wanted to set up shop making anything tuck n roll again that I'd be right there on his payroll..heck most of us here probably would! You keep in touch..reunite your self with some tuck n roll...and Play Loud! ET

hey John...we love pro audio guys..anybody that makes their living and gets to play with the toys...oh yeah!
There have been two kustom meets thus far..the first was in Nashville..just seemed like the place to be..actually it was a matter of me finding a guitar show sponsor that was friendly and generous with space and then getting a good number of guys committed to bringing gear that were close enough to drive...to everyone's credit..there were many hours of driving...I only had to run about 8 hours..some folks came from much farther..and still others had to leave their babies at home and fly in, only to be gracious enough to enjoy us showing off our rigs, while their prizes sat home..that's a hard one...the second meet last year was in Indy..bigger guitar show...good turnout by the group, but Bud had to pass on it...we're looking at Kansas for the next one..there are plenty of new faces that have not been to a meet that are down that way and have a lot to bring to the floor..I'm fine flying in..I just get cranked watching all the other guys enjoy their gear.
As for your audio biz...you'll enjoy the fact that even though by today's PA standards, the old kustom cabs do lack a lot...many of us still use them for our weekend PAs... my personal setup has a pair of the 3x15 siren cabs for my mains, and a pair of the 2x15 bass cabs loaded with new technology long throw sub woofers..I tune all the cabs in with Ashley crossovers to find the sweet spots..and when I need more top end throw I have taken a pair of the 200 kustom head housing, pulled the amp chasis, made a baffle for PV22T horns and grill clothed the front to match the kustom cabs..these sit on top of the sirens and I can reach the back row just fine! I've been running my rigs with cheap power..some old PV power amps, which I don't care for, but they were all but free...and my old kustom 400 big amps.. I know I need to trade up to something like a Mackie 1400 or prefer the Crown powertech 2.1 series...I keep real efficient speakers and not high watts..have all of 300 watts per cab...but for my average wedding..its plenty.. I get good thump and great main coverage....and the look of that matched set of black kustoms, a siren and a 2x15 on each side of the stage, along with my backline guitar amps all kustoms, and a pair of columns for monitors, etc...all is right with the world! hey if you have a power amp you're throwing out sometime, please think about me...I'm on a budget...cause anything I buy that ain't tuck n roll means I one less kustom I can't afford!! Are the meets in Nashville around the same time as NAMM?
I don't think the 'Crown powertech' series exsists unless you buy-used/get-it-free. However I can get you 40% off the price of new Crowns or QSC. I suggest the 'Crown CE Series' or 'Crown XLS Series' or even 'QSC RMX Series'.....
