Well last night I pulled out a used K100 that I had picked up two years ago cheap due to the blown output stage it had.
During this passed spring I had repaired it all but for popping in the two new output transistors so last night while I was in the process of doing that I recalled that I had on hand to great Motorola outputs from a early peavey amp I used to have.
These crossover to a NTE180 which are a step up from the 2N3055 that come stock in customs.
The amp I pulled them from worked find when I pulled them out, but I checked them on my transistor checker anyway which gave them a clean bill of health.
I installed them and turned the amp on and one of them blew and took out the fuse and likely one of the new driver transistors that I had installed earlier!
So it just goes to show ya that when its time for a semiconductor to go there is not much your gonna do to stop it, and many times like in my case this takes place at power up!
