Here's the latest on the knob news: It's taken me all week to get the customer service rep to give a price quote on the knobs, and a minimum order amount. Finally this morning when I checked in, she had just gotten a price quote, but only for the minimum amount (!!??!?!), which, as it suprisingly turns out, is a mere 40 knobs. The price each at this small quantity is $1.73. She was pretty sure that there were price breaks at the 100, 250 and 500 piece points, but had to get still another set of quotes (!!!) to find out what they were. I checked back this afternoon right before their closing time, but still no info. Hopefully I will have the final prices by Monday or Tuesday; honestly, It's like pulling teeth to get anything out of them. I'm guessing that the prices might drop down to the $1.50 range or lower, depending on how many we might need as a group, which would be very nice indeed. I'm probably going to want 50 or so to replace some of the ratty knobs on my Moog Modular synth and Minimoogs as well as my future Kustom Kollection. I finally caved in and bought a black K200B-1 from the local used gear place for a pretty good deal (it was badly in need of a good cleaning and more), and am going over it to get familiar with it. I'm getting some good ideas for doing a quality refubishing of the circuits, and will hopefully have some interesting things to share with you all in the near future. In the meantime,I'd like to hear from you about the things that you like and dislike about your amps, especially those of you with larger Kollections who can compare and contrast between several of the same heads, or between different models. What about some of the features? Having not had the chance yet to hear the units with Selectone, Selective Boost, Harmonic Clipper or Vibrato, I'd like to hear what you think about the sound of these, and the useful range that they cover; is it wide enough? Should it be wider (or narrower)? Does anybody use the Harmonic Clipper? Could its sound be improved? My first area of exploration is everyone's favorite, noise, and while I'm concentrating on ways to quiet things down, I'm also looking ahead to fine-tuning some of these features to make a more player-friendly stage rig. You can email me directly with your comments at gary@tranceaudio.com I'd love to hear what you think. I'll have more info for you next week (I hope!); have a great weekend and play loud! I just saw Jeff Beck rip it up in San Francisco on Wednesday night and have been both inspired and intimidated ever since. He gets an incredible palette of sounds with virtually no effects at all (just a very slight dash of echo here and there, less than I'd use even if I was being conservative). Truly awe inspiring. See him if he comes your way! gh
