Hello. I noticed in another topic mention of differences between the franks and A series, but I was wondering what the physical difference is between the A and Bs. I own one of each, a K200A5 and a K200B6. My A5 isn't as loud at the same setting as the B6, but if I turn it up a little more, it equals out (plus the reverb cuts a little gain; hardly noticable level). Both heads have a real heavy bottom, but my A5 has a nicer top end; the B6 has a more midrangey top end (nice for bass), especially with the bright switch on (I don't use the bright switch for guitar...it's a little painful). I don't have a B5 for a more even comparison, so I don't know if this is a fair comparison since one head is a bass amp and the other is a PA, but I use both for guitar with 2x15s. I also noticed that my A5 has a really nice breakup when it's turned up to half; like a tube amp, but not flabby (I wouldn't use it cranked to that point much if at all though since I run two 2x15s under it). In its defense, my B6 has an awesome sound with a telecaster; it really kills the harshness associated with the bridge and leaves the nice grind there, all while being more than loud enough to compete with a bass amp running wattage in the four digit zone.
Besides my comments though, has any else noticed any heavy differences? Thanks!

OK....I will take the bait! Electronically, I can not tell you what the differences are because I do not speak the language. Most of the "A" series heads I have heard have a more pleasing tone to my ears.....but for me ...reliability has been a problem. Physically the amps are different size....the case for the "A" head is not as deep (front to rear) and there is a wooden block inside that will not allow the installation of a "B" chassis without removing it first. Guess how I found this out? Seems like part of the difference has to do with how the output transistors are mounted. Also because of the size difference the screw holes do not line up for locking the chassis in the case! Maybe that will help some. BC
