Hello, recently I was given some Kustom gear from a friend leaving the country. As I usually play fenders, I have no idea what the hell this stuff is.).The head says k100-1 and there are 2 2x15 cabs that say Kustom by ross, inc (One of the cabs is a lot heavier than the other one). Any info on if this is a bass or guitar amp or anything else would be greatly appreciated. thnx

Hi, if the head has two seperate channels it is a bass or guitar head, they where one in the same. one cab being heaver than the other tells me that that cab would have upgraded speakers (IE) altec or j b lansing models. A aluminum center dust cover would be the tip off if you look thru the grill cloth. If the speakers are original, then the jack plate on the back of the cab would say what the cabs where loaded with. To know if they where bass or guitar versions, only opening up the cab would tell, all though JBL 15inchers have alot less high end responce than the altecs. which still sound pretty good for guitar. The only question is what impeadance are the cabs? The 100 head is not to great sounding with a 4 ohm load, which would be the with two cabs. You might also notice that the head has only one out put jack. Kustom never intended a 100 to power two cabs. All cabs made for 100s where 8 ohms.

hey thanks! I forgot to mention that there are 4 inputs, 2x bright 2x normal, and a toggle switch on the back. Tone bass volume for each channel. Would a pre-amp make this head sound better? also, is it 50 or 100 watts? edit- one cab says d130f with the 2 speakers saying Kustom 16ohm g15a w/an altec sticker on the upper speaker.the other cab is missing the plate and i gota open it later.

The D130s are JB lansing guitar speakers, and are one of the three best speakers ever made for full guitar sounds. They are very loud speakers, 103 DB worth if I remmember right. The amp is 50 watts RMS 100 WATTS PEAK. A preamp would help only if you need more tone shaping, the amp has plenty of gain. For better tone shapping you can Y into both channels. Dont forget a preamp puts out line level, 30 times hotter than the signal out of your guitar. That would distort the amp alot. The strange thing is the altec sticker you have on the speaker. Their is a six diget code that speaker manufacturers use, on altec lansing speakers the code is 391 the next diget is the year and the next two the month of production. this six diget code should be stamped in ink some place on the frame or magnet. It sounds like that cab originaly had JBLs, but now has altec lansing speakers. Either speaker is a amazing one.
