Hey Kustom fans !!!!
I have just come into posession of what seems to be a near mint K100
combo with original Jensen speakers. 2X12
What is the wattage on this thing ?
I think this thing is solid state but not sure.....anyone know ??
I know from my research this thing is late 60's but cant seem to find this exact model anywhere.
Can anyone fill me in , including what it may be worth ? Thanks

Hey PJ...first and most important question...is it black with little ports on the front?...if so I'm going to give you an address..what you have is a very hazardous piece of equipment that was banned by the FCC under article 411 of the FEC 301 code in 1969. Since you're a kustom bud on this web site of good friends I feel its important to help you with this as soon as humanly possible...pack the amp carefully and ship it to Ed Taylor, Charlotte NC. I will make the necesarry modifications to it so that it is safe for you to play....now I usually return the rig in less than 72 hours in the original carton...oh, and pay no attention to the Peavey sticker on the front panel when you get the amp back..its all part of the process, as is the removal of the tuck n roll which is believed to be padded with a lung endangering material, so I of course remove all that and recover in tolex without all those annoying lumps and humps...sometimes the process makes the amp appear visually smaller two but even though it may look like only a single 10inch speaker is in the peavey...uh I mean the kustom revision, it really is the 2x12s, its just an optipical delusion, plus it'll save money on the return shipping..cool huh...anyway my kustom buddy...just thought I'd help with this...I'm sure the other guys (and gals Deb) will be making similar offers, but just remember, I rose to your assistance first....

sorry...it just comes over me...not even good humor..just a sickness...your rig is a K100 rated at approx 50watts rms. it is solid state...good reliable stuff. The model was made across several years from around 68 into the early 70s. While the serial number is of little help in dating, the older models are easy to spot with two distinctions...one, the porting on the speaker grill will be a brushed aluminum inside and out and the name plate on the grill in the center will say "by Ross Inc." on the very bottom edge. These are my favorite cabs and IMHO are the better ones. The later rigs will have chrome ringed ports with black insert and the name plate will say "by electronics Inc."..the earlier ones of these are really no different from the Ross rigs, but as Bud let go of the company and the business boys got into it, the quality of materials started to wane..there is also a 2x12 with a straight cab profile..the older ones have a slight slant from larger at the bottom to the top...they are great rigs, very flexible and a nice size for today's needs...congrats on snaggin it and welcome to the best bunch of folks on the planet...Play Loud....ET

if no ports then I'm wondering what you have..might have misunderstoof...I was thinking you meant it was a piggyback 100 rig with seperate amp and cabinet....but yes there is a 2x12 combo rig and no ports on it...my email address: etayloret@aol.com send me some pics...there's always room for more black gear in the dog house where my wife makes me sleep now....ET

gotcha..sorry...well I have 2 myself both in pristine shape...however...there is a methodist minister...no this is not a baptist joke...David's his name and he lives about an hour and a half north of me...I bought several amps from him and he's looking for a nice 2x12..actually all the SC models..he's such a great guy and a pleasure to do busines with that I've considered selling him one of mine..especially since there'd be no shipping involved..but I like to run my rigs stereo ...DAvid's email is
mmcdac@triad.rr.com and I know he'd like to hear from you....but before you do..let me just put in a plug...I've brought home the Fender rigs the devile and the hotrods both..love the look..had high expectations, even given the understanding that they were not the custom shop pro level offerings from fender, but rather designed to answer a market niche on price with tube...just the same A/B against my kustom 2x12..there's no comparison...yes, you'll get more tone from the fender plugging your geetar straight in, but load up a good pedal board with some overdrive tones and eq, etc..and the robustness of the components in the kustom will take far better to the hotter signal than the fender will...if you love your fender...great... I'll shut up...but I'll tell ya..there sure are times when a well made solid state amp is the way to go for pedals and wet fx....I'd be tempted to keep them both...course I was tempted to keep the last 30 amps that came home..but I'm a sick man!! Play Loud..ET

ET is telling you straight about the tone...there is nothing else like it. Also you are correct about no channel switching...that amp is probably 30 years old! However I switch channels on my amps with an A/B switch when I feel the need to do so.....You can also combine the channels with it.
Don't worry about the wife.....I have 20 Kustoms and I am looking for 20 more! BC

PJ:
I think you should sell your 100 2-12 Sc to me! I will love it, clean it up so it looks new, and enjoy the hell out of it! I'm serious, I need one badly! My kollection room has black and blue pieces in it, so this one will fit in nicely! Send me some pics. Don't sell it to ET, or Brad, they have way more Kustoms than I do! Deb

OK, my turn to respond on the k100SC. It is only a 50 watt rms amp. Kustom did do a upgrade later on and increased the output to 75 watts rms and it was the 150 series. I have a sc100 and a sc150 and I prefer the sc100. ET is right with the kustoms. I run a digitech RP1 pedal processor and with the kustoms, they handle the siginal with ease. The tube amps seem to get lost in the shuffle. My stage rig is the RP1 with a kustom K50 single 12" 25 watt amp. I installed a line out for the house mix and I have went head to head with the 4x12 100 watt marshalls. the k50 on stage keeps right up with the marshalls and the tone I get from that setup, cuts over any tube amp I have ever used. I used to have three marshall stacks and now I have way to many kustoms. I played that set up last night and some musician friends came to hear the band. It was the first time they say me play with little kustom amp. They were blown away with the sound. The amp was parked next to a acoustic 371 bass rig. The point being, play around with the amp with some effects and compare it with the fender. The line out is easy to install, and I would add a grounded ac mains cable to the amp at the same time. I you do decide to sell the amp, sell it to deb, we need more kustoms in michigan. Don

Hi pj ... I've played a K150SC 2x12 for quite a while, and suspect it would be similar. Mine has been such a good one, out of all the amps I've got, it's the one I keep plugging into. I acquired it 2nd hand in 1974, and the only time it went into the shop, we (the band) were jamming at full throttle in a small room, and my best friend fell over it backwards, knocking it on it's back, at that moment it DIED with a reverborous roar, following that......nothing. A trip to a tech in Indianapolis and $100 dollars later, it's been good ever since. And I still gig with it a/b'd to a Reissue blackface Twin Reverb. Great tones.
I have never found the correct application for that 'high' input on the 150. I just use the 'low' side and have fun with it.
