have a bass guitar that says KASINO a product of KUSTOM. been around in our family since i was like 10 yrs old. not a scratch on it, so i decided to do some research and there is not one single link, story or anything on this bass guitar as to when it was made or anything. called guitar center in hollywood california and the guy there said he hasnt seen one in over 30 years. not sure if i should keep it, cause i love this bass, heavy solid and plays great, or put it on the market for sale. does anyone have one, or maybe know the value?

thanks, i do have pix of it if anyone wants to see it.

I apologize for reviving such an old thread, but it seemed like the right thing to do.

I am supposed to be picking up on of these today. It's a "project" Kustom Kasino bass (A product of Kustom). I have scoured Google and can't find a lot of info about them. At $25 off Craigslist, I figured it's worth the gamble. Does anyone know ANYTHING about these basses? A rough idea of when they were produced, who really made them, what country, etc. etc.

Thanks!

I have been around for a long time and have untill now never heard for them or seen such.
You can date it by the numbers on the case or the volume and tone controls if they where made in the US.

Well... What do you get for $25? Stripped screws and cat piss. Seriously, I think this bass was left out in the garage for years. Now I know why he never sent pics.

Turns out it's a short scale bass. I had to drive 45 minutes out of the way to get it, otherwise I would have just passed on it if i had known it was short scale. It appears to have originally been red but was spray painted black at some point. The pickups fell apart after taking them out. Let's see.. What else? Two screw left out of eight in the bridge (one of which was stripped). Three screws out of four were holding in the pups, the fourth's head was broke off and I'm still trying to work that one out of the body. Aside from that everthing else was peachy-keen... Um, ok maybe not so much, but the dings and eveything else I pretty much expected.

At this point I'm stuck with it. I'm not going to pitch it or anything. Given that it's a short scale I'll probably refinish it, return it to good working order, and then pass it off to my 7yo son or put it back up on Craigslist. It's not the bass's fault it was mistreated.

I can post pics and keep you all updated if there's any interest, otherwise I'll just let this thread fall back into obscurity. Oh, and there's not a lick of any type of model marking or serial numbers that I can see.

Just bought one at auction for $30....Looks solid...needs strings...HEAVY...Black...odd that they seem to show up in Ohio..Kustom used to be located here??? I bet this sounds great once I get strings on...I use a LOTUS early bass...FENDER 'Copy" but with an odd narrow double coil pickup...I love this bass...VERY heavy....but sounds killer.

Sorry this is really late in this thread but I also have one of these guitars and I did find a page with limited information on this line of Basses.
http://www.broadwaymusicco.com/kustom11.htm
It seems that in the day they were actually a pretty good bass, around 1970's is when they were produced and seems they were produced in Kansas.
I really do like the bass even though I prefer playing rythm or lead guitar.
If it is decent condition i would recommend buying it for a cheaper Bass guitar they are really good.
