One 4 Ohm Load - Two 8 Ohm Load..? [message #887] Fri, 28 September 2001 03:19 Go to next message

On the back of a Kustom Concert amp by the 2 Speaker output jacks it says: "Use One 4 Ohm Load or Two 8 Ohm Loads".. While this sounds like a simple instruction, could someone explain how you would actually connnect a single 4 Ohm load.. 1) Do they mean you would connect a Y cable from both of the speaker output jacks to a single 4 Ohm Speaker cabinet.. also.. 2) On the back of this same PA amp there is a single Monitor output jack.. is it safe to conclude that this is a 4 Ohm load output.. (even while you might have Two 8 Ohm Speaker cabinets attached to the speaker output jacks)..? Thanks again to all the helpful Kustom friends.. Peace and Strength Our America

AW, the tag on the the back of your kustom kasino pa head means, that the amplifier operates at a 4 ohm total load. The two columns that came with the head were 8 ohms per cabinet. The speaker jacks on the back of the amp are wired in parallel. When both cabinets are plugged into the head you have a 4 ohm total load. If you were to use one cabinet of some kind, you would want to see that it is a 4 ohm speaker cabinet. Two 8 ohm speakers in a box wired in parallel would be a 4 ohm total load cabinet. There are many ways to wire speaker cabinets, but a rule of thumb is parallel divides, and series adds. The amp will work fine with a load of 4 or 8 ohms, but going lower than 4 can be harmful. The mointor output jack is not another speaker output, but a combined signal from all 4 channels that can be used for tape recording or hooking up another power amp to drive additional cabinets. Don
