Does anyone have specs on the drivers in the 15" siren horns used in the 200 series amps? How much power will they stand....where should they crossover? Is there a modern driver that can be substituted for the original? It is time to get serious about KUSTOM PA! BC!

I thought that the driver is either a Jensen or an EV. But any driver with a 1" throat will couple with the reflex nosepiece. The JBL 2426H is a 1" driver. But I have heard that the new JBL's are very hot, not in a positive way. There maybe a depth problem in the cabinet. If the driver is longer than the original, it may not fit.

The original drivers according to Bud Ross were Atlas sound drivers and they crossed over at 2k with the 10mfd cap. The driver was rated at 30watts. The ev 1823m would be a good replacement.

Well, I was not trying to step on anyones toes and I agree that some drivers are hotter than others. I tried some peavey 22A drivers and the 22xt drivers, with poor results. The peavey drivers were way to hot for that horn. Very shrill and harsh.. The EV are more suited for that horn. I do remember that peavey had a special crossover for the 22 series drivers that would pad the driver by 6db to match their horn and cabinets. Don

Thanks very much! I especially appreciate the info about the PV drivers....I have some Altec horns with 22A's in them and I was going to attempt a swap. The harshness of the original drivers is what I want to get away from if possible. Foxy has smoothed them out with the use of a 31 band EQ...but you know how the "relentless chase for tone" is! Any ideas on where to get the EV drivers? BC

ok...ya'll might not believe this one, but here's what's up with ET's PA...the local Speaker recone shop set me up with these... I have my sirens loaded with Motorola piezos..not the cheap $10 Radio Shack deals, these are 150 watt round better quality drivers...look about like a typical horn driver, not as raspy as the little piezos we've all come to ...well... but these guys do tend to be more sizzle than blair (blare?)...they are great for throwing short distance..dance floor range sizzle. Only when I am outdoors or in a very large room do I add additional horns which are PV22T models loaded into empty 200 kustom heads. I made a baffle board and covered it in grill cloth so it is a great match to my kustom cabs, stack one on top of each of the 3x15 siren cabs. the heads have a crossover board mounted in them with a volume pot cause yer right, I throw a 100 watt amp at them in a seperate tri-amp config and they will rip the plaque right off your teeth of your not careful. I'd prefer a 2 inch driver, but space in the heads was a problem...still, not a bad setup. Its been years since I loaded the motorlas so I don't remember the specs on em...but thought you'd enjoy hearing how the poor boys handle things.
