i just traded for some things and got 2 kustom speakers that were in storage they have the silver spackle covering(my camera wont turn on for pics).i was wondering how i can tell if there old or reissue.i have not taken the back off yet to look at the speakers(they have the metal handles with plastic inserts).they are heavy and look like they have had some use so you would think reissues would be lighter because of the different wood.only one speaker box works.it sounds great regardless.

The re-issues are made of dence particle board and weight more.
What type of cabinets are these? if they have port tubes, the re-issues have plastic tubes who`s center section is not colored black( all silver) the vintage K200 tubes are black in the center, they early K100 tubes are made of aluminum, and are all bare aluminum.
This info may help you deterin if they are new or old. There are other ways I could explane to you as to how to date them, but this may be all you need.

If they say made by Ross, then at least the cabinets are vintage, but I do not know what you are discribing when you say silver foam?

A lot of people who are new to Vintage Kustoms think the 'tuck and roll' is a padding. The poster is refering to the color of the tuck and roll itself. He says they are very heavy... 412s are notoriously heavy anyway, but the absense of ports puts it a little later in manufacturing, doesn't it?

Shaun - still a newbie, lol

http://www.broadwaymusicco.com/kustom2.htm.they are the same columns as the ones on the bottom.the article says they are best for vocals or just add a horn or tweeter,i dont play by the rules so im going to record guitar with them because the mids are awesome, and i leave everything below 100 for the bass. i wonder what ohms rating they are i might put different speakers in the one thats not working.

Or open it up and see if it's just a loose connection.
