So I've pretty much got all my fender, Marshall, and Hammond gear in order, so I'm turning my attention to my Kustom stuff. I picked up two cabs from a kustom collector here in town.

He had a ridiculous amount of gear and I bet he's on this forum. The two cabs are a 2/15 and 3/12 and I think he had raided them for parts, as the handles logos, casters and speakers are gone and the 3/12 has no baffle board.

Here's my questions for the expert panel:

Where can cosmetic parts be found? I found castors but would like handles, grill cloth and logos.

I plan on using the 2/15 with a K-200 4 channel pa head for bass primarily and keys secondarily. What are good speakers for this app? Does anyone know what impedance these pa heads need to see?

I also have a 2 Lead that came with Lafayette labeled Utah speakers. Could these be original?

Thanks!

Justin

Welcome to the forum. Original handles, grill cloth and emblems are exremely hard to find. There are a thread or two on handle replacements and maybe grill cloth that aren't very old and you should be able to find them through the search function. I once bought someone's poor attempt at a 1-15 cab. The cab was horrible, but it did have a correct CTS speaker in it as well a an original handle in super shape. I removed those two gems and then sold the empty cab for almost the same price that I bought the whole thing for. One of those rare deals. Anyway, try the search function for those items and you'll find some interesting stuff. Cool

Hello Justin - I have a 3-12" baffle board for sale. It is complete with intact grille cloth and speaker mounting bolts and nuts, minus the Kustom logo plate and the ports. Will sell for $40 plus actual shipping. my e-mail is braud357_2@yahoo.com

I figured as much. What about those chrome rings that go around the port holes? Same deal - hard to find?

I was going to have a baffle made for the 3/12 based on what I could tell about the 2/15, so were the baffles pretty much the same from cab to cab with the exception of the cut outs for speakers and ports?

The grill cloth can be found at parts is parts Fender black. The other parts, handles and port tubes would have to found used on CL or Ebay. The K200 heads want a 4 ohm total load. On the Lead ll amp, it would also want a 4 ohm total load and the Lafayette brand Utah speakers would not have been original issue speakers.

Thanks so much. I bet those ports will not be easy to place.

I have been running the head through an 8 ohm ampeg cab. Is this a bad thing?

It will not hurt the amp to run it at a higher ohm rating, however you are not getting the full potential of the amp. If you go lower in ohm's is when you will burn things up or at least take the large risk of doing so.
