Welcome Aboard Josh,

My guess is it's a bass amp head but All Kustom heads work most excellent for either guitar or bass in My opinion. It all comes down to using an EQ and your choice of pedals. I use a Digitech RP-2000 and it is sweet. I would recommend anyone to get a Digitech GNX2,3, or 4 for their Kustoms or the Line6 Live pod if you have the bucks to fork out. Making your own tone action is really wher it's all at but sending that tone signal out into an Old Kustom Head is damn near impossible to beat? I'm sure Old Ed, BC, and Steve can be more specific on the K100A-1 info if and when they come in from setting off their holiday jam sessions and firecrackers and whatnots? Recommend you read thru all of the webboard sections when you get time. There is tones of outstanding info from the whole gang.

If the inputs are numbered 1 thru 4 it is a PA head, plus you will have 4 channels, each with volume bass and treb and reverb. The exception to this rule are the early frankenstein type heads( look at the literature section on this site for the pictures of the 1966 heads and notice the thicker upper padded section of the cabinet head)These PA heads can be mistaken for a guitar head. On the back of these heads it will have three numbers followed by PA if it is a PA head

The suffix number indicates the type of head it is. These suffixes were only on the A and B models. The -1 is a straight guitar/bass head. There are no differences between the guitar or bass heads. The literature sounds like there is a difference but they are the same. A -2 would be have Reverb/Vibrato effects. A -3 would have Harmonic Clipper/Selective Boost effects. And a -4 would have all of the effects. A -5 is a PA head and a -6 came out late in production and it is a -1 with selective boost. I have a K100-1 and a K100-2 and they follow the same conventions. The literature section is great for identifying your amp.

Conrad is right! In fact everyone is right. You can use the amp in any application....just add your own effects. Speakers are also key to the sound. I play bass but I can use any head in the Kustom line and still get great tones.

On the model numbers it is as Conrad said with the suffixes.... earlier there were some crazy times in model numbers that involved "list price" (795..895RV etc) and speaker configuration..(315-c) and others in what we call the "A" series 200s but with a little practice you can sort them out. Congrats on your Kustom and welcome to the site! Cool BC
