I just picked up a real cool 200 head at a garage sale for $20. Looks like a gold/silver sparkle...anyway...I play bass..and I'd like to run this head (4 channels) through a bass cabinet. I realize that I'm only looking at 100 watts.
Can anyone see any problems with this setup?

100 watts can come up short in some situations. The amp is an excellent bass amp. The overall sound will impress you. Run the output to a 2x15 cabinet at 4 ohms and you will get out plenty of sound.

A head is a head is a head in a lot of ways. So If you like it on bass it fine. I use two Kustom 200's on bass. One just does'nt get it for me. But the two are great to me. I have never had a PA head but the fella that had the Pa back in those days always said that a 200 watt bass or lead amp had 100 watts per channel. Which I know is true. But his next statement I don't know and it was that the 200 Pa only had 50 watts per channel for four channels. The only thing I know of for sure you would be missing off of a bass amp is the bright deep switch and the low high inputs. Its like the bright deep switch you see on a fender bassman is you're not fimilar with it only its the size of a regular volume bass or treble controls. Its mounted where you see the reverb control on the Pa head now. But you have reverb in the Pa head in place of the bright deep switch. On the bass heads too you will have a high and low inputs and on the Pa head just one input per channel. I like the low inputs on bass heads. It just feels stronger. Maybe the input things have something to do with anti feed back on the Pa model. Have fun!

Thanks...that's a relief.....my first response told me that this head would work fine with 2 x 15's....and that's what I plan to do..........

If you plan to use twin 2x15 cabs be certain they are 8 ohms each. The 200 series tone fattens at a 4 ohm total load. You can also fatten the tone by using an A/B splitter and playing through more than one channel with different tone settings......and do not be afraid to try a tiny bit of reverb now and then to see what it does as well. I am not a technical guy....but I have played bass through all of the 200B series heads in the last four years and they all work well if you are a four string player. BC

I use A k200b-5 pa head most of the time for bass and keep a rebuilt/recapped k200b2 for reserve running through two 15" Carvin PS15 speakers in a homemade cabinet/Kustom wannabe. No difference in the sound with either one, other than using the bright switch, if ya want....I also use a Cascade Frankie with high freq horn, crossover and two JBL E 140 speakers. I put eight hidden ports into the original non-ported cabinet, and that thing will literally knock the paint off the wall. Back to the pa head--it will sound fine. I have never had to crack my amps up past 4 or 5, even to play at an outside concert. I got my eye on another one locally that is Blue....Is this a sickness or what? I got it bad...
Have fun with your Kustom
