Hi all, I am new to this site. After 40 years I finally found my rig of choice. I cannot believe how well Kustom amps sound. But then again you folks know that. Anyway, I bought this K200B-4 serial number 52826. I think it is from the 70's. I am playing it through a 2 - 15 CTS Kustom cabinet. I think this one has some issues. There are 2 channels. Normal and brite. The brite channel has the reverb and the normal channel has the Harmonic clipper and the Boost. Ok, when I turn the reverb on the volume in the brite channel dies. It stil plays but has no real volume to speak of. The sound is clear and the reverb works great. Is this normal? Then, the normal channel seems to work much better but I cannot use the reverb. I turn it on but it doesn't do anything. Why does the reverb only work in one channel and the boost and harmonic clipper only work in the other? Is that normal? I am not a tech but have a place to take it to. I'm just wondering if I should take it be repaired. Oh, the tremolo works but is real weak. I also tried it with a fender footswitch and it does control everything but I only have one switch so i can't test all together. Thanks for any help you guys can give me. John

Hogman22:
Welcome to the board.

If you search the old posts, you'll find a serial number list that Les Strickland has posted. It will let you know when your amp was manufacured, based on the serial number.

For your other problems:
Yes, it's normal for the reverb and vibrato to only work on the left channel, and for the clipper and selectone to work on the other. It would have been nice for the reverb to work on both channels, but unfortunetly that was not the way they did it.

As for your reverb problem, it sounds like there is a bad cap or a bad switching transistor in the reverb circuit. I don't have a copy of the schematic handy, but if I remember correctly, the pre-amp signal is switched to go through the reverb circuit on that amp.

The weak vibrato could be caused by a weak oscillator signal or a bad coupling cap. By the way, it is pitch shifting vibrato and not tremolo on your amp.

Any of these problems shouldn't be too hard for your tech to solve. All of the FX should work without any footswitch plugged into the amp. Each effect has a switch on the front panel that works in conjunction with the effect level control.

Hope this helps.
Bill

Glad to help out another Kustom fan.

By the way I mis-spoke and called the selective boost, Selectone on your right side pre-amp. Selectone was the 3-position switch, tone modifier that was found on the K200B-6 models. Your pre-amp has the 6-position switch Selective Boost control.
