Just sold my Kustom k200 B-3 with Harmonic Clipper for 299.00 on ebay, and it makes me wonder what are these tuck and roll heaps of
plywood,pressboard, wires and plastic worth?
I mean nothing looks better than a stack of these things behind a band (Sheryl Crowe?)but I keep seeing these things on ebay for 65.00 150.00 come on they got to be worth more than that!!!!!! Interested to see what the feedback is on this thanks!!!!!!!!!!Long live the purple light!!!!!!!!!!!

If I bid on anything on ebay, I don't bid until the absolute last minute. I don't want to run the price up by bidding too early. The prices usually escalate in the final hour of any auction. Good K100's go for $400 to $600 depending on the kolor and kondition. K200's are a bit less because there are so many out there. And K400's seem to go for considerably less. Komplete, matching rigs are worth more than the individual pieces totaled. Kovers and kords add more to the overall value. I have covers and I don't use them. They tend to wear out the top corners.

Seems to me Kustom gear (and most anything else) is worth what someone is willing to pay. While it sounds obvious, sometimes that doesn't have much to do with an item's actual value. For example, we can all think of excellent quality instruments you can't hardly give away. Popularity and, therefore, price can be related to general economic conditions, recent high profile appearances, local or regional trends, etc. Frankly, while the new Kustom stuff may have rekindled interest in the vintage gear, I think in the long run new Kustom stuff may have actually served to drive down prices as the vintage stuff was tarred with the same brush as the new stuff. One man's opinion. As far as ebay goes, I have never bought any guitars, basses or amps via ebay or mail order. Yes, I'm a Luddite at heart! But I have to lay my hands on a piece of gear, play it, and look it over with my own eyes. Photos, no matter how good, are not as good as seeing it with your own eyes. And hearing is believing. Therefore, for me to actually break down and bid on something I had never seen or played the price would have to be rediculously low. I suspect others may feel the same way. If so this would also tend to keep prices lower. Again, one man's opinion. Axeman

I have been both delighted and burned on ebay. I bought a 2x15 cascade bottom from ET through ebay. (Before I found this site) And I bought 12 JBL speakers, 8 E120's and 4 E140's on ebay and was only disappointed in 2 of the speakers. I believe the sellers on ebay are the same as you and me, and I would hope people would trust me.

had me worried there for a minute Con...cause I woulda known if I had ever owned a cascade bottom!!
Guys..to Hen's point/question...I've found two main groups of kustom nuts that have set price through the years..and it had little to do with the reissue kustom rigs, more maybe with the craze of nostalgia we all went through in the 90s...but basically..there's players that don't care..or maybe prefer if a rig is ragged...they want to play it...and get it cheap....then there are those of us that fell in love with the symetry, and the incredible cool of a new kustom, and to us, clean cosmetics are a must...and make all the difference in price...in fact, I'll usually not even consider a ragged rig, but pay top bucks for a mint one even if I already have the same model in my kollection in mint condition...but bargains can be found and I'll take em any chance I get... good example.. I have a pair of SC 2x12 100 combos..both black..both mint...and I mean really like new...I had searched for a clean rig for many years with no luck..so when one finally came up.. I paid the full asking price of $500 plus shipping...high for that rig in black...but I was tired of not having one...2 years later... I come across one just as clean..with cover...$160!!!! got it to me shipped... I've had little combos with all of one cig burn on the top and it bugged the hell out of me gtil I finally found a mint rig, sold my burn rig for top dollar and now I can sleep at night.. I'm wierd that way..actually I'm weird in a lot of ways..but ya'll gotta know that by now... I've seen a full siren PA rig go for $900 and if I had had the cash at the time I would've bought it...even with some rough spots...the sirens that I do have look great from stage...$225 for the pair no shipping brought em home...its part of what makes this collecting thing so fun...ya never know what you'll find..sometimes a great bargain..other times...emotions take over..and yet sometimes..someone else wants it more than you and all you can do is sit back and be amazed as the price goes right into orbit...so take that ebay money you just made on the sale of that ol kustom..and go buy some more tuck n roll...n play loud! Every day I check the ebay listings for T&R. (No, not T&A) I am not in a position to buy right now, but that doesn't matter. I saw a red K100 and I thought I would die, but I didn't bid and I got over it. Sooner or later I will pick up something else, what it will be is unknown, but I know I will. I am also surprised that there are so many clean rigs out there that show up in the music stores on consignment. I bought a Cascade K100 at a Music-Go-Round one day just because I was driving by, saw the store for the first time and stopped in. There it was, in all of it's pristine glory, with covers, footswitch, and original speaker cable. My brother, John, picked up a Red K200 with JBL's at a music store because he needed strings and was in the area. There must be a Kustom force field somewhere out there drawing us in. Here comes the pitch. Guys, go to JC's picture site, WWW.KUSTOMPLAYER.COM and check out the Kollections and the 2 rigs I just mentioned are at the bottom along with another K100 combo. If we are lucky, the foolish kollectors that frequent this site will acquire all of the remaining rigs that are out there and save them for their kids and their kids and T&R will never die. The look on the faces of people (Kids) who have never seen anything like it, is immeasurable. T&R forever. (T&A too!!!)

I've got the red K200 rig that Con mentioned and my charcoal 2x10 combo proudly displayed in my music room just off of the foyer (at my wife's request). Virtually everyone (even non-musical types) notices the gleaming pleats, and more importantly, thinks they're cool! The Kustom appeal seems universal.
I'm with ET about a clean rig, cuts and cig burns make me twitchy. But I would like to find a well used K200 w/ JBL 140's for every day gigs, every time I take my good rig out I get nervous about damage. It's hard to balance the nostalgic and the utility aspects of these beasts. They have the right sound and look, and are tough as nails functionally, but they are a bit fragile in the cosmetics.
So as far as what kustoms are worth, we're dealing with a limited supply in a relatively small community of enthusiasts. The value of a piece is all about timing and luck, and what you're willing to pay. It seems that too often I buy high and sell low. But after all, this isn't about economics.
John (Con's little bro)

On the subject of the nice rigs and the players........I have some of both. If you are a regular player like I am, you do not want to take your near mint gold K200A signed by Bud Ross himself out to the local watering hole. Getting home at 2 and 3 AM sometimes later....sometimes working the next day causes one to not give an amp ALL the respect it deserves.....sometimes they stay on the trailer for weeks at a time. My player rigs have a few cuts and a tear or two and maybe a hole in the grill cloth. But, under multicolor lights in a smokey bar sometimes even the true color gets lost....but the sparkle is always there and the flaws are usually not seen at five feet anyway. Burns are mostly on top of the heads and they are seldom seen too. So if you are a player.....it is OK to buy a rig that looks good straight on as seen from a dance floor. If you are a serious collector and display and play the Kustoms in your living room.....you will want to be a little more selective in your purchase. Now to the question of worth.....a Kustom is only worth what you can get for it. A collector looking for a mint white sparkle (silver) to complete a set of amps in every color will pay a lot more than a guy who is looking for the tone only and could care less about the color or condition of the amp. In my early days of Kustom chasing I paid more than I do now after 4 years of buying tuck and roll. It is the old supply and demand game AGAIN.BC

I found a pair of Cascade 3x15 PA columns through the guys on this site, at Music-go-Round in Huntsville, Alabama. They were asking $400 for the pair. I communicated with them on a couple of occasions and after about a year, yes a year, the manager came back with an offer of $200 and I put money down on them and expected to pick them while on vacation to Disney in FLA. After I saw them, my wife and I both decided they were too rough and I decided against buying them. One of the columns had the speakers with very cheap ones, and I didn't check the other one out and we left them there. I just couldn't get them out of my mind and I kept looking for them on the Music-go-Round website. One day they were no longer listed and I panicked. I called and found out they had made a stock swap with an Atlanta store and the columns were there. I called the Atlanta store and the price was again, $400. After much hemming and hawing, (what is a hem and a haw?), while I was on business in China, I made arrangements to pick up the columns and once I got back to the states, I drove to Atlanta from Milwaukee and I picked up the player grade columns. The speakers were removed and sold. One had cheap Magnavox speakers, the ones I saw in Huntsville, but the other had Jensen's. I then replaced them with JBL E140's and they are the most kick-ass PA columns anywhere. So I guess the moral of the story is, Kustoms are worth what someone is willing to pay. In my case, twice as much as I should have!!!

Well...there are collectors and there are KOLLECTORS...the price that a particular piece will fetch is often a function of disposable income of the purchaser. I'm at the stage in my life - kids mostly grown, house mostly paid off, and finally making a decent income - I can afford to endulge in an occaisional rolled and pleated treat! If I only would have kept the Les Pauls, P Basses, and Gretches I had when I was younger...the house would be paid off!!!!!

back again...prompted by my kustom brother BC who reminded me that player grade rigs are more than viable in the arsenal...fact is my PA rig (pr of 3x15 sirens and pr of 2x15 bass cabs ) are in fact player grade...if you stood in my dark living room looking at them amidst all the other gear, you'd think they were near mint...turn on some sunlight and look close and you'll see my patch job on the bottom corners, and some other rough spots...but on stage..they look great..and the work all year long for me and I'm as proud as I can be to have them out there with me...seems like the bigger the rig, the more forgiving I am about it..the little combos...need to be cherry...gottta scoot... bedtime...ya'll Play Loud!
