Is this back stock? [message #3175] Sat, 18 October 2003 10:24 Go to next message

I bought this "Kustom by Ross" Frankenstein head a few months back...the guy who sold it to me said he bought it from a guy who ran the music department of a school for years and years, and the school probably had bought it new. That little ripped sticker on the far end says "Whito (rip) School of (rip)". Anyway since I got it I've been wondering why the back doesn't have the usual ID plate on it and such, and looks completely different from the back of any other Kustom I've seen. I've been asuming that at some piont, someone removed the original back and used this screen mesh instead. If so, they did really good job at cutting everything evenly and making it look professional...but I don't know why they'd bother in the first place. Is there any chance some came off the assembly line looking this way?

It looks original to me. The early Kustom heads did have wire mesh backs.

nice, thanks...so is it also stock that there's no identifying plate in the back saying "Kustom" with a serial number? And how about that red plastic tape wattage rating?

The red wattage label is not stock I would belive, although my early mesa boogie amp has that type of labeling on the rear. So who can say ! My early head is a 67 with the regular kustom knobs, if you have the stove hat style knobs it would be a 65 or 66 head I think. It would be nice if we could determin when Kustom changed over to the latter style knobs.
