HELP! Bud's autograph in question !! [message #1136] Thu, 13 December 2001 09:43 Go to next message

ok ya'll.. I wasn't going to tell in advance..but it looks to be all set and I really need some help...got a call from Andy Ross (Bud's son)..seems he was helping Mom move a while back and up stairs in a forgotten corner were a pair of kustom guitars. He sent me a polaroid of the red one...he's keeping the burst...and there is a question as to the history of these "unplayed" guitars...its possible they were pulled from the factory to use in the early catalog shoots and then forgotten...now can't confirm it..and it doesn't matter...but the important thing is that the red is coming home to me! but before it heads this way, Andy is stopping by to see Bud for the holidays and I've asked Bud to sign it... so...the question before you all (yes there really is a point to all this besides braggin rights.) is what should the autograph say... "to Ed..my greatest lifelong fan in the whole world...".. naw..he'd have to write up the whole neck! ok boys (and Deb) take your shots at the ol ET!...yuk it up if you will...but I'm smilin cause big red is coming to my house for the holiday!!!!

Well ET, you could see if he'd write something like "God gave me the talent to make this guitar and the amps that you love, and God gave you the talent to play them--Enjoy!" Do I win the prize???? :-) Heck ET, the story chokes me up for real..... I am proud of you and for you, if that makes sense. Deb

Bout time you broke down and got a guitar. Too bad it ain't black but there's just something abour the red, eh ? What kinda burst did Andy keep, wine or sun ? Anyhoo, when Bud signed my Zebra Ash in Nashville he just put his name on it, that was enough for me. Congrats ET and play that guitar LOUD ! AND - a very HAPPY HOLIDAY to Y'ALL !!!!!

I've workd for RCA/BMG for over 16 years. It has been my professional opinion that any item autographed "TO:" someone is admittedly WORTH LESS than the same item just signed by the artist. The "personal" touch seems to take away from the value. We all know Bud's signature, but YOU'LL know it was personaly done for you. After all...it IS an investment...isn't it?

Resell value doesn’t much matter in this case, does it? That guitar ain't going NOWHERE and we all know it! And it shouldn't –this is an item ETs family will treasure for many many years, long after we’re all gone... A personalized heirloom like that will be a warm fuzzy reminder of crazy old grampa ET.... you 'member ol ET...The loony ol coot that loved them puffy amplifiers so much he let the company founder scribble all over his guitar... I truly couldn't be happier for you ET. If it was not for you, most of us would not have had a chance to meet Bud, let alone meet each other. You are the founding father of this little group, and an honorary son to the Kustom throne, so to speak. And the rightful heir to that guitar. I know that Bud is grateful for your friendship and kindness. You have a strong personal bond with Bud, so of course the autograph should be personalized. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not trying to be argumentative about investment quality merch, and I do agree with Lizzardo about autograph values. If Britney Spears offers to autograph your Pokemon cards, by all means, ask for her to make it generic. But this just ain’t one of them deals. Jb Ps: yes I have been drinking. Merry Christmas

still chuckin over the last note and I want one of whatever your were sippin on...thanks to all...just thought this would be a fun one to post and yer all right about the signing...on value and keepsake...but most of all your right that this geetar will never leave the Taylor family. I have never been really hot to have to have a kustom guitar, or any of the many accessories that proudly bore the logo...there was/is just something about those amps that has never grown old on me. But when this call came in, I knew it was an important part of the heritage... I guess I'll need a red sparkldy amp now to go with it...man is that gonna mess up my black collection or what ?!! Love ya'll and thanks for the kind words and the fun...Play Loud! ET
