I just registered and looking for advice on value and how to sell a K200-B5 Gold T&R on this forum. I bought it about 10 years ago from a friend who needed the cash but only ever used it to check it out and be sure it works.

I've looked around in the forum and elsewhere and have some idea of it's value, but would like to get an idea of the actual vintage from the S/N 69753 and feedback from you officianados.

From what I understand it's a PA head but works well as a bass amp.

I've run through all the functionality using my bass. All tone/volume/reverb functions in all channels work great and actually has a really cool sound when cranked. There are some ghost noises from the reverb (humm or chunk) when all volumes are turned down, I suspect that may be normal. The only function I haven't checked is the one jack on lower back right--is that a foot switch or line out?

Cosmetically it's got some minor dings in the hide, a small 1" rip in front that's been taped and a few small burns on the top (the 70's were great, eh?). The paint on the back panel is flaking a bit. Otherwise it looks great.

I'm looking to sell and would like advice on how best to do that on this forum. I live in NH and have only sold stuff on Craiglist for Cash. Is there a FAQ or other info source that would help me understand how best to sell/ship through this forum?

Thanks!!
Dan

It is all about color and condition. Ciggy burns are a huge downer, rips and tears too. If it doesn't work correctly it is going to take money to repair it. So it isn't worth a ton of cash. If it was mint, you could get a decent amount for it. but ciggy burns cannot be repaired.

It is a PA head not a B1 head or B2 head.

Bart,

Thanks for the feeback, and those were my obvious assumptions about the cosmetics and operation--I'm not trying to oversell it, just trying to get a grip on it.

But are you implying that the "ghost Noises" I refer to are indicative of "needing repair"? I have nothing to compare it to for reference. At one point I thought of installing a grounded 3-wire power cord to see if I could quiet it down. Is there some method or standard that could give me an idea of true design functionality vs. current operation? (db noise ratio, or the like)

Dan

You don't know until you get it apart and do testing. I would have to hear the noises as well to see what it is.

Adding a grounded 3 prong cable is a good thing to make the amp safer, but will not remove the ghost or chuck noise. You may have one of the reverb springs broken off which might cause the noise. I'd open it up and check to see if both springs are intact.
One true way to make sure it's a gold covering is to remove one of the metal feet on the bottom. I've seen several white silvers that have yellowed out to appear to be gold. In any event the burns really detract from a selling point, and if it turns out to be a yellowed out silver that brings the value down from a true gold.
