I wandered into a local store on Saturday and saw a Kustom bass amp. A 2x15 bass cab and 100 head in Cascade. Original handles, by Ross, wheels were perfect. The T&R was also really clean.

Though I have really been seeking out a blue 3x15 these years - I declared close enough and got it.

I noticed the ports have a bit of gold tint to them. Is that correct?

Best,

- Ziggy -

I have never seen any with gold tint - my guess is that it was gigged a lot - the gold could be nicotine stains. I bought an old Precision Bass that had this same problem. It was hell to get off, but was shiny chrome beneath !

I will try cleaning it and see. From the lack of damage I don't think it was gigged much but maybe the owner smoked.

What is a good cleaner?

If the port is the plastic version, than just some dish washing soap on a warm damp sponge should do.
If the port is the pre plastic Aluminum item you should pick up some Mag wheel polish in the small tube form, or even some good old household Tarnex which you may already have.

Ziggy,
I never figured out whether it was smoke stain, or just that the clear coat had aged, but I used lacquer thinner to clean them back to the original color, and they have been fine.

I had this problem. When I was finished cleaning them, there was still a ring of gold around the outer edge of the port, almost as if it was designated to be colored gold. I am still not sure why it was like this... It was a red cab...
