Hi all,
Has anybody tried out any Neodymium speakers?

It can make a big difference in cabinet weights:

Example: Kustom K100 2 x12 cabinet
69 lbs with Altec 417
70 lbs with JBL K120
80 lbs with JBL E120
47 lbs with Celestion neodymium
56 lbs with Eminence/Carvin neodymium

Example: Kustom K200 2 x15 cabinet
91 lbs with JBL K130 or K140
105 lbs with JBL E140
73 lbs with Jensen NEO15-150

Here is a partial list of what is available.
(I contacted all the companies for actual weights but they are not very responsive – some, including Carvin, even gave me the wrong weights.)

The altec 12" 417 model,15" 418 model are pretty light guitar speakers with their alnico magnets. So are the 130 and 140 model JBLs for guitar and bass respectivly, with the same alnico magnets. It seems you can pick up some of these vintage ones for less than some of these new neo mag ones, plus they will up the value more for a kustom amp while the new ones will drop the value if thats a concern.
