one channel dead on 100 [message #7799]

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what to try to fix my 100 head. Channel one is out but the other 3 work fine. I checked the jack and it is OK. I'm not a tech but I can do some basic things. Any help would be much obliged.

Its odd that a channel on a k100 OR K200 would be totaly dead and just not have very low gain and distortion or noise.
Your head is a PA head, and all 4 channels are the same so do you need to run all 4 channels at the same time, if so then its time to take the amp to a tech as there is nothing I think you could do yourself.

Hi,

I don't need all 4 channels going at once but just wanted to fix the dead channel so everything is working. I hate to take it in and pay $100 to someone if it is something simple. I'm guessing it must be a transistor. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction but I guess I'll leave it as is for now.

Well if you know how to test transistors, then you most likly you know how to take an amp apart to get to them, so in that case start pulling the transistor of that channel to find the bad one. If you get no hiss at all with all the controls cranked for that channel, then my first guess would be a bad first gain section transistor, all of a 39 cent part.
