Hi all...listen, sorry, but with the help of the Road runner police who literally shut dowm my connection last night we've traced down a Sircom bug and the source was the sweetheart.zip picture file from the Indy show. I dont know if it came to me infected or if I got the email...so many daughters useing this home machine..anyway..the latest Norton update will get it and clean it, but wanted all to be aware as our beloved picture of don in the naughy vest is where we found it at this end. Hope i haven't contaminated to many of you.. I think the road runner boys caught it fairly early..and it has been cleaned on my box now....ET

Et, I don't know how you received a zip file of the indy sweetheart picture. Mine was sent as a regular jpeg and I haven't dectected any any virus, but I will investigate it further. Thanks for the heads up.

I received the .jpg of the pic from RC, and that's virus free. It sounds like it's one of those viruses that taps into your personal files, grabs one, adds the .zip extension at the end of the file name (actually giving it a name like Don In vest.jpg.zip)and then sends it to as many people that are in Outlooks address book. read the new post that I'm starting about how to fix your address book so that it doesn't happen. But, always update those virus defs at least once a week people!

Okay, I'm posting my tip here too:
Okay guys, I read this in PC World:
Create an invalid entry in your Outlook address book. Enter a bogus first and last name starting with a non-alphanumeric character (*virus-tap, for example). Enter

sorry guys (n gals)..the virus is Sircom and it came in from I don't know where but did attach itself to several files.. I loaded the latest norton which caught it...the pic of Don did come in as a zip file but we think that was an AOL ISP interpretation..older AOL used to present them as some other compressed format which is another story and I forget it anyway...but the problem appears to be mine and not from any of our gang..just hope that you haven't caught anything from me...most of my emails to you have come from my laptop office system which is clean...its the home unit that's screwed and I'm still clearing problems in that it attacked some windows OS files.... anway..sorry for the trouble..just an ol grey hair'd guitar player trying to figure out these darn computer things....ET
