Hello,

if my memory serves me well, there is a combo version of the Kustom III Lead (head). Does anyone remember what the name of this version is?

Thanks in advance!
mathias.

EDIT: Could it be, that it is just called "III Lead SC"?

Are they similar in sound?

I know they had the 2x12 combo in that series I'm pretty sure it was just the III lead sc. I had the 4x12 stack at one point and it was a great amp just missing the cool tuck n' roll.

If you go into this site's literature section you will see that the term SC / self contained is only used in terms of tuck & roll amps.
The amps you are questioning from what I recall are only named the Lead II or Lead III model.
The Lead 2 model had a output of 75 watts RMS, and the Lead 3 was 125 RMS .
If you pm Pleat I believe he would know for sure about the names of these models.

Kustom didn't offer the Lead lll in a 2x12 version. The Lead lll was only offered in the piggyback setup.

You are correct, I thought we were talking of the 73/74 series just after the T&R was gone. The Big K series did offer the 130 watt in both a 2x12 combo and the piggyback head. The older silver control panel only offered the Lead ll 75 watt in a 2x12 cabinet.

Thanks to all for the answers.

I have the Kustom Lead III head + a 4x12 cabinet.

Model III-L SN 223045 was made approx September 1979.
Speaker cabinet model 4-12L SN S161498 was made approx October 1978.

I need to save some space and was considering selling the two (and one or two other Amps) and maybe instead get the 2x12 Lead III SC, if I can find one once. Was just playing with the thought in my mind. I was wondering, if the sound is much different.

Another reason is also, that it has a problem. After playing between half or an hour the volume drops and it gets quieter. I don't know, if I will find the time to repair this, if it is even repairable. But I will have to look into this another time.

Thanks so far!

I can't see that picture... It says I needed an upgraded account.

Thermal issues ( volume drop outs ) and tarnish on 35 plus year old slip on connectors go hand in hand !
I would be that if you just unplugged and reseated all the connectors in the amp it would work fine once again!

Thanks for the hint. I will look into the connectors, once I get the time. Now that I know what it is, it should be doable.
