Greetings,
Can you guys enlighten me on a quick history of the power module? When did it appear and when did it go out of production?

(Q) Was it standard or optional?

(Q) Where was it located? (I'm guessing bottom right?)

I've never seen a cab with one and would really like to see a pic and know something about it. Thanks, Woody

Hello. The power module was introduced in the 250 series. It basically replaced the 400 amps, they called these the 500 series now, 250 watts x2. The deal was if you wanted more sound you could order a cab with the power module in it. It would be called X- what ever the speaker configuration was. The amps were located right in the middle of the 4x12 cabinets and the other cabinets the were located center towards the bottom of the cab. They also made PA monitor's with a power module built in the cabinet. That is placed lower in the cabinet also. I have a 2x15 + H with the power module and a Monitor. I also have a 2x15 and 4x12 I added a power module to. The design was first seen by other companies, The most famous was Acoustic with there 360 bass amps and there 260 line. The 360 always had the amp in the cabinet and the 260 amps would be supplemented with a powered 261 cabinet.

Kasino lead the way with the powered module design in 1970 and Kustom started in fall of 71. Several power versions, Kasino's power modules were 50 watts rms in powered monitor column, 100 watts rms in the guitar and bass cabinets. 125 watts Rms into the powered PA cabs. If you look in the literature section click on Kasino. The idea in both Kasino and Kustom is, every time you add a speaker cabinet, it also added the power amp to drive the added cabinet, so the sky's the limit. Kustom in the fall of 71 Kustom did powered module guitar and bass cabinets, but not in the PA's.
