I have a 1970 Kustom "200 Series" energizer. Can I run this into a 4 Ohm cabinet without overheating? What is the spec rating (is it 100 WRMS @ 8 Ohm)?

hey Robbie...all the official know it alls are on their way to the Indy meet...but with disclaimers I tell you what I know...all the kustoms I"ve had (about 30 pieces at the moment) have been fine running at 4 ohms...in fact some of the models in the 250 series came with 4 ohm cabs to make them louder. My 200 series heads have always had a pair of 8 ohm 2x15 cabs run with them and I"ve abused my little K25 by running its 16 ohm in conjunction with a 2x12 8ohm cab..not sure what the math did on that cause I was too young and stupid to know about things like that...but it sounded good..loud..full..and never blew up so there ya go. For guitar I rewired my 4x12 4ohm cab up to 16 ohms ..gave me a tighter sound..not as loud..but full and beefy.. and lets me stack an 8 ohm SC100 2x12 combo on it and go with all 6 12s...life is good! ET

Yup ET, the 250 2-15 cabs were 4 ohms. And, I've ran a 4 ohm load (Kustom and Peavey--I know its nasty) on my K200 B-1 LOUDLY with no problems. And, I do know that Randy K. has ran 4 ohm loads too and he plays louder than me--go figure! He hasn't smoked anything yet either. Recommended ohm loads are just that--recommended. Remember when your parents "recommended" that you not do something? I think it was because they didn't want you to have too much fun, or none at all.... Maybe that "parental advisory" is an industry standard for "don't blame us if you smoke it." What do you think?

Howdy, form all of us that made the trip to indy. I'd like to say it is a balmy 50 degree with all day rains. The kustom K200 A and K200 B are 100 watts rms into a 4 ohm load. The amp is designed to run a single 8 ohm cabinet and will produce around 65 watts and with a 4 ohm load 100 watts RMS. There is no harm it going over the 4 ohm, but I wouldn't run a load under 4 ohm to the 200 series. The ratings are assuming that we are keeping the THD factor the same. OH by the way there are some red amps here in Indy, or should I say there were some reds her in Indy. Anyway be safe and play loud as ET would say. Don

Yes, I now have some reds. Indy was very good to me. I also had a mint charcoal K50 follow me home. I hope all went well with your elbow. I guess you wouldn't have been much help loading Brads hurse with all the tuck and roll he hauled home. Hope all is well at your side of kustomville. Don

Hey Deb...hope that elbow heals up well for you... I know things take a bit longer as we get older (he he!) but we sure wish you well...glad you can type on handed..heck I can't even type with two of em! Looks like some neat trading and buying went on in Indy..man am I glad I avoided that part of it cause my toy money is a wee bit low...and I know I would've wanted someting cool and sparkeldy and those guys are such savy horse traders that there's no telling what wouldve happened...I sure missed going..but somehow I'm cranked just knowing that the meet happened again...and will yet to come...I truly hope you and I and Randy can all make the run next time...and I think Don's house is always open so let's just run up there an surprise him!!

Well ET, if you're gonna come up to Don's, let me know! He lives about an hour or so away from Randy and I. And Tom isn't too far away from Don either..... Heck, maybe next year the Michigan group should host the gathering at the Detroit show.....then I know Randy and I would make it!!! Yup, the older ya get, the slower all the body processes get. But, I'm sure you know all about that (he he).... I think I'm younger than you! I'm starting to work out a deal with Dan on the Cascade Altec 150 cuz I gotta have it! Hopefully it comes to live in Michigan! I haven't even heard it and I want it! It'll sound sweet for bass or guitar and that's why I'm interested in it. With all the effects I've got, I can make it do anything! It'll be nice when I get it cuz then I can stop drooling all over the pics of it that are on my monitor on a daily basis now......
