Hello. I have a blue Jensen 2x15 cab and my friend has a matching pair of cascade CTS 2x15 cabs. I really like how the CTS sound for guitar and bass, and he seems interested in a guitar cab, so would it be a fair trade if I put my Jensens in one of his cabinets and his CTS in mine? The reason we're trading speakers instead of cabs is because he has a matched pair and my 2x15 has a matching blue head, so we don't want to split up the amps. So, good idea or not? Thanks!

Hello. In addition to my idea idea above, I had another one. I have 100 series CTS 1x15, so maybe I could swap out one of the speakers and turn the 1x15 into a guitar cab while making the 2x15 a half bass, half guitar cab. What sounds better, total swap or half swap? Thanks!!

P.S> if I only swap one speaker, would it sound better with the CTS on top or bottom? Usually I put bassier speakers on the bottom, but would it work better in one position or the other? Thanks again!

I would try a half swap first, that way if the tone starts to become not to your liking, you that that a full swap would be a waste. Always put the speaker with the most high end responce in the higher cab position. The CTSs are better for bass, but the jensens are worth more as far as vintage speakers go, if that means anything to you.

Hello. Well, I tried it. I think the two different speakers cancelled each other out, there was very little if any bass response even though the speakers were wired in phase correctly. What is noteworthy though is that the grille was flapping around, and it has never done that before (and it's not a loose replacement; I have used this cabinet loud with a K200 before). So needless to say, I put the Jensen back in. It sounded good though in my little 100 1x15 cab. It wasn't a total loss though; at some point, someone did a hack job of rewiring my blue 2x15. The wires were soldered straight on to the speakers and the wiring looked like it was made out of an old extension cord. I re-did it with new 16 gauge wire and the standard speaker clips and even did the classic twist to the input jack. Ironically, a total swap would have sounded better; I have my friends pair of CTS 2x15's at my house still. The only real difference between the CTS and the Jensens sonically for guitar is that the Jensens play higher and the CTS go lower (obviously), but have very similar nuances. For bass, they sound almost exactly the same, except the Jensens don't play into the below 60 Hz region. But yeah, it was a noble experiment. Thanks!
